Miles Davis Relaxin' With Miles Davis Quintet
Voto:
Having listened to it on repeat this summer while on holiday (it was one of the dozen CDs we had), I was, partially, disappointed. It doesn’t seem to live up to well-known Davisian peaks. Of course, I could be wrong, given my ignorance on the subject.

Great review for the most boring, irritating, and pretentious album of the year. Obviously, it’s my problem (problem is a way of saying it).

I only saw the unplugged of Pearl Jam in a video about fifteen years ago a couple of times, and I don't remember it being that bad. I'm not sure if they've done any others: at that time, it was just material from the first album, as far as I remember, with Vedder at one point doing a handstand on the chair.

Sorry, is there a girl named Giada here who wants to hook up?

I also love the lyrics of Pennyroyal Tea. The image of Leonard Cohen is fantastic (I won't open any more parentheses otherwise we'll never finish). Always there, the confession of the rock star who survives on warm milk and cherry-flavored antacids has always struck me as brilliant. My favorite of his remains: "I feel stupid and contagious." Regarding Cornell: let's not confuse the fact that he makes crappy records with the fact that he’s still a monstrous singer. Listen to a solo bootleg recorded in Sweden last year, fairly easy to find, with the acoustic version of "Billie Jean." Damn, he can still sing, that man.

I stand by my opinion. The lyrics written by Staley in "Dirt" are the most raw, sincere, and horrifying on the issue of heroin addiction. Perhaps a bit obsessive (just look at the titles: "Sickman," "Junk Head," "Dirt," "God Smack"). But no one has ever tackled it with such realism. Not Cobain, for sure. And Cornell is a great singer, more than Staley, but he doesn't have lyrics that measure up to this. Just consider: "You, you're so special, you have the talent to make me feel like dirt, and you, you use your talent to dig me under and cover me with dirt." I hope, this time, I’ve quoted it correctly.

Funny. P.S. Thanks for the private message with the links... I haven't managed to listen to them yet, but sooner or later I will...

@Oleinar: you're right...my memory is pretty much gone. And so is my eyesight. In fact, I only just noticed that the receiver wrote Stanley instead of Staley.

Well! I don't know if that was the inspiration. What is certain is that, in terms of lyrics, Staley was definitely the best of the time.

Indeed, as Lethe said, in the second part it does lose a bit. But the first facade is stunning. "Nutshell," definitely one of the best acoustic ballads of the last twenty years. And with that line, also quoted in the review, that has really navigated through my mind. "If I can't be my own, I'd feel rather dead." A few words finally about Mike Inez, who has just joined on bass, and who seems essential in this album.
