@OLE is exactly what I wanted to tell you... there are beautiful and ugly things in every genre, and one cannot ignore them, tout court, milestones and masterpieces (whether they are MARQUE MOON or IN THE COURT.. or LARK'S TONGUES IN ASPIC)
Joan Baez Farewell, Angelina
Voto:
Very beloved in her youth. Honestly, I never listen to her now: after 5 minutes, she bores me... I have this record, and it's a good starting point to get to know JOAN BAEZ, the performer & the politician. Also, DADDY, YOU ARE IN MY MIND is an unheard Dylan song (although there is a version in the BOOTLEG SERIES). Overall, the record deserves ****, taking into account BAEZ's arrogance and folk purity. Excellent rediscovery!

But how can you forget the gem? Here it is: "You are the one building castles in the air, wanting to create these rivalries between prog and the rest of the music."
You're off track, brother. I’ve been, with satisfaction, to 2 KING CRIMSON concerts, as well as one by EL&P (truly a bad experience even live, despite the technical skills of the three), in addition to having a large number of prog records (both on CD and VINYL).

philosophical question for intelligent users (who preferably detest TELEVISION): but who generalizes, provokes?!?
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation

Example of GENERALIZATION: "Know that in the rest of the music there are not just the television or the residents or the nirvana or the radiohead or the pearl jam or the morphine (which are the bands for which I have been mostly criticized for giving low ratings) but there are so many other things that you may not even imagine, but GENERALIZING is an unfair card often played by provocateurs like you."
So, you too are GENERALIZING and therefore you are a provocateur, because you don't know WHO I am, HOW MANY albums I have, WHAT I listen to, etc. Those prog albums you love so much, I have them too and – I REITERATE – some are true masterpieces, many others are simply MANIERISTIC.

Dear ARNOLD, just because you rate RADIOHEAD or TELEVISION (just to name two...) and give your explanations, it doesn't make you immune from having said something utterly ridiculous. Those bands and those albums - and many others that you mock - are part of HISTORY, INDISPENSABLE MILESTONES regardless of your comment.
I take this opportunity to clarify that I haven't attacked anyone at all. Least of all you. You're the one who doesn't want to remember what you do & say. Anyway, I recognize that there is a right to be forgotten. But certain bullshit is hard to forget.

@OLEEINAR I fully approve of the list (I love MATCHING MOLE!)...I had guessed that your idea (S.Y. prog!) was a joke. We're here to exchange opinions, suggestions, and records...to satisfy our curiosity, fill in gaps, and discover new stuff. Not to hide behind vague labels.

P.S.S.
All this uproar started from the unfortunate comparison between SONIC YOUTH and GENESIS...which remains, in fact, a mystery!

Well, OLEINAR...let's go with smooth... (I hope your comment was a joke: the Sonic Youth progressive? Do you know how mad ARNOLD gets? Here's a tip: also get the TELEVISION, there's a whole world beyond YES).
@Arnold, I don't understand why you're getting mad...it's not a crime to give a 1 to TELEVISION, it's just sheer ignorance. For example, I rated FOXTROT a 5...and I stand by that record, I don't retract my opinion. Or do you want to retract your rating (and others - too many - given to random bands just because they aren't prog) or you’ll have to deal with me citing you.

Anyway, the advice remains: a simple history of Rock, one of those popular ones, even if it's BERTONCELLI's, should be read...

So you force me to re-read you and I can do nothing but point out this one "pearl" that shows open-mindedness:
I would feel inclined to quote Arnold's post, damn, would you forgive me? :D It’s clear we are on different positions, and that no one will convince the other to change their opinion! However, you must at least admit that Arnold’s arguments are well-reasoned just as much as yours. Probably there is no absolute truth. Anyway, it's interesting how a certain type of music is seen by different people in such diametrically opposed ways!

Now, don’t tell me you started with ARNOLDLAYNE... someone who rates TELEVISION with a 1! What am I saying? Someone who gives a 1 to everything that isn’t prog!!!

Dear OLEINAR, it was YOU who made the pro-contra parties… I simply limited myself to pointing it out. Just as I pointed out certain peculiarities of the prog. That you don’t want to accept them, effectively barricading yourself in the fortress of the "fan," is another story.
P.S. Your posts are a demonstration of what I said a few posts ago: as soon as someone says something AGAINST the BELOVED GENRE, here come the FANS who, if they don’t take you down with harsh words, label you as a "bearer of REVEALED TRUTHS." Go read any of the rock histories (even those by SCARUFFI or ASSANTE/CASTALDO) and you will see how I limited myself to stating things that are already well-known.
