Dear MARYG, thank you for the compliments (in which I see a subtle mockery, which I gladly accept)... As for the invitation to measure myself on a review, I'm thinking about it, but I don’t believe it would be useful or fruitful on my part to analyze this album by S.Y. because it’s already been the subject of various articles, as well as being a widely known album among users, nor would I be able to say anything that hasn’t already been said… In other words, I acknowledge my limits, and I would certainly say some banalities or nonsense, from which I’m not immune, like any other human being… I’m just a glossator, one who limits himself to commenting on the reviews of those who consider themselves up to this not easy task (and for this, they should be appreciated); someone who reflects on the text while referring to what has been listened to… Of course, if I were to think about an obscure or poorly reviewed little record, I would take on the difficult task… I’ll think about it. I wouldn’t want the challenge to be posed on the false assumption, common in this sad country, that THOSE WHO DO are immune from criticism by those who don’t. But I’m sure you don’t belong to that category, recognizing in criticism, dissent, and free thought a value to defend. I’m sorry that you cut the discussion short… and if this is due to my bothersome TONE, I apologize, as it was not intended. With respect.

Before the diligent red pen of the teacher arrives, I take the liberty of correcting the typo: IRON MAIDEN, instead of "IRON MIDEN," my typing mistake... sometimes my fingers move faster than my thoughts...

It's already the second time you've justified the nonsense (S.Y./GENESIS - S.Y./METAL) with tautological answers. In inviting you to calmness and good manners, I point out that the DE MAURO under the entry PIGLIO indicates: "pì|glio s.m. CO 1 way of looking, facial expression: p. frowning; p. proud, threatening 2 fig., extended, tone of voice: to speak with p. firmly | style, way of writing: a prose with a p. lively". Should I deduce that SONIC YOUTH approach that piece as if they were - what can I say? - METALLICA, IRON MAIDEN, or SLAYER? Something that I don't find to be the case, unless it is proven - in an urbane manner - otherwise. There are many silly things being said, including the one about the comparison to "Wind and Wuthering" GENESIS, an album from '77, played between pop temptations and previous progressive experience. Therefore, I see no relevance unless it is clarified what is meant by such a comparison, what connects that particular piece from that particular album to that other piece from that other record. Enlighten us, for us mere mortals don't see certain resonances, and the role of criticism is precisely to "build" a way of looking at the work. P.S. I didn't intend to make any list, let alone an exhaustive one (and I don't see how one could and who would succeed. As NEGATIVO pointed out, the list is improvable)... it was just a response to OLE regarding some '80s artists listened to.

Show of culture? Frankly, I didn't care: I was asked for some 80s records and I took a quick flight through distant and diverse genres and artists... Congratulations on your swift red pen, ready to highlight typos, of which I believe no one can claim to be immune. A typical trick of those who have nothing else to say that is WELL + INTELLIGENT AND CONSTRUCTIVE.
P.S. I am still waiting for a rational and plausible explanation on the GENESIS / SONIC YOUTH and METAL / SONIC YOUTH parallelism.
P.S.S. Take the opportunity to make use of the list, even though it's not exhaustive and was thrown together in 4 minutes...

Dear Maryg, prog (like metal) is far from S.Y. Nor have you provided justifying reasons for such (daring) comparison/symmetry. If you've followed the discussion, it has emerged that here no one hates prog...

The reviewer is good as always. This record is truly the last old-fashioned JAZZ album, played by the (then) young musicians of the Davis quintet. Anything less than *** would be a crime. Obviously, to both. (LONG LIVE THE BLUE NOTE CATALOG! and for the free jazz purists, LONG LIVE THE IMPULSE CATALOG!).

A LADY REVIEW, in all capital letters. The research done and the detail of the information are appreciated, the discographic and sales analysis, the essential comment of the reviewer, played on the (difficult) balance between the data, the raw facts, and the listener's expectations. Five stars to the reviewer, the bare minimum for BAGLIONI.
