Chalk on the blackboard... For my tastes, it's almost annoying how well it’s crafted/acted, etc.
Terrence Malick The Tree Of Life

In an Italian cinema, they mistakenly screened the first half after the second for a few days: no one noticed or complained. I'm not ashamed to admit that I understood very little of this film, and therefore the viewing was as rewarding and quick as reading a dictionary. That said, since it's undeniably a masterpiece, the 1 I give goes to myself and not to the work. Of course...

Well done! I was going to write this myself, but you beat me to it, and your analysis is excellent. The film is very well made, with great editing of the scenes, setting, and cast. The soundtrack is chilling, especially in the final scene. I still believe that it's too convoluted, with too many names and intertwining events that, in some cases, are only hinted at and objectively a bit difficult for those who haven't read the book (like me, for example). Maybe I wasn't in the right frame of mind, but my brain was a bit fried by the end trying to keep up with the plot, and this situation made me enjoy the viewing experience less. In the finale, it might have been nice to have a clear unravelling of the tangle, bringing all the points together in quick succession. But perhaps it's just that I don't fully appreciate the genre, as I've already pointed out, lacking rhythm and tension. I would need another viewing to better appreciate the direction, which I didn't fully enjoy in the theater. So, 3 for me, 5 for those who love the genre. However, I’ll remember the name of this director.

From today, the Great Wall of China must be added to the exclusive list of man-made things that are visible to the naked eye even from space, along with this review. It's phenomenal that such a waste of energy has been expended for a 3: the most useless, sycophantic, and bland rating of debasement. I almost prefer it. Chapeau!!!
James Cameron Avatar

Watched it for the first time yesterday without 3D. The film itself seems to follow the usual American formula, almost unbearable in its dichotomy of good, very good, and goodism versus bad, very bad, and unscrupulousness. From what I had heard, I thought it would deviate from the usual structure. Mediocre actors, but two extremely positive elements: there's rhythm, and the exaggerated length doesn’t weigh down the spectacle; visually it’s stunning (HD), and perhaps it’s the only film for which 3D might actually make sense. It’s understandable why it has had such great success, being a forerunner and technically monstrous.

"Beyond Magnetic contains 4 pieces discarded from the 2008 album." You’ve said it all in these 10 words.

José Saramago Le Intermittenze Della Morte

The inspiration is, as usual, excellent, and I find the duration appropriate, not excessive. By now, I have gotten used to his flowing prose, but I can understand why some might find it challenging. It's a delightful book; ironic, sarcastic, extremely logical from the absurd starting point of the plot, and even moving. The last chapter is wonderful. 4, but only because he has written 5-star books that few others have produced.

China... I invite you to read a couple of them. I trust that your intelligence is sharp enough to understand what the invisible thread is that ties them together and passionately in that dark de-selection.
