Well, what about Mercyful Fate, Budgie, Thin Lizzy, and Black Sabbath?? Anyway, it's clear that Diamond Head was the most important band for Metallica's sound, but of course, there are all the other bands too, no doubt about it.. Cliff Burton was heavily influenced by Discharge.. AM I EVIL!

I only know him for the immense success of "Tubular Bells".. I remember that Possessed opened "Seven Churches" with the intro from "Tubular Bells" on the track "The Exorcist"! ;) I have never heard this album..

You're right.. that’s what I wanted to say.. they have kind of conformed a bit too much to those American metalcore/nu-metal groups that just make noise, that’s all. The first albums indeed have some very beautiful songs..

Another beautiful song not to be underestimated is "She Talks To Rainbows"..great Ramones!

CoolOras, I know you weren't referring to me.. anyway, who isn't making music for business and money these days?? I think very few, and those few might belong to metal and hard rock, you know, all the good music, to be clear.. :)

I bow before the greatness of Samson and the unmistakable skill and cunning of Defender85!! Wow, what an excellent review...as always rich in details, information about the band members, and the songs on the album. The best tracks, as far as I remember (because it's been a while since I listened to them), are "Vice Versa," "Thundebust," and "Hard Times," but surely the others I can't recall will be just as great based on your descriptions! Am I wrong or were Iron Maiden also influenced, in addition to UFO, by Samson?? It's a situation similar to Metallica, who were influenced by Diamond Head and Blitzkrieg. Then again, I could be mistaken...anyway, amazing Samson...I absolutely need to check them out! STREETS OF DANGER!

But who said that I listen to bands that make music for not selling?? Surely Slipknot will wear makeup to be a bit more famous and to impact the listener.. there’s no doubt about that!! Just like with black metal, but that's another story..

Malmsteen definitely deserves respect. Unfortunately, very fast and technical musicians are often judged as cold and uninvolving, both in their music and especially in live performances. It's a bit like with Dream Theater; there are those who adore them madly and those who dislike them just as much! Personally, I like them!

I don't like the masks of Slipknot... I now find them a bit ridiculous, and I find it makes a bit more sense in some black metal bands, like Immortal and Cradle Of Filth... but Kiss had already done it thirty years ago, as far as heavy metal goes! Slipknot, however, have a sound that really rocks... I saw a live performance at a friend's place, and it's crazy! THE ERETICH ANTHEM!!
