one of a thousand reasons: they were born before a thousand bands (including Megadeth, for goodness' sake) that took inspiration from them... at least in the beginning. another reason: because the first three Metallica albums (and that's it) are infinitely superior to so much trash metal from the '80s.

Look Mauro, we understand that you don't like prog.. honestly, after this studio album, I think it really sucks, but believe me, I went to the Heineken last year and live they are truly something amazing.. despite all of Hetfield's problems.. despite Ulrich looking like my grandfather, believe me, live they put all those little bands from today to shame.. then if you don’t understand a damn thing about metal, you can just keep quiet.. I don’t know much about prog and I simply say: I don't like it.. but I certainly don’t go around saying it’s crap.. but where have you seen the drum solos? What’s the point of prog?
