I feel like I almost completely agree with Donjunio... and yes, it must be said that the REM of today are just a shadow of those from the Monster era. That album is, in my opinion, a masterpiece in its genre; if it had been released by a mediocre band (that is, one that hadn't already produced two masterpieces like Out of Time or Automatic for the People), it would have certainly been a huge success. But since they are REM, they cannot miss a shot... but perhaps that's the way it should be. So, be careful when comparing the REM of the past with those of today. They are very good now, but once they were divine, unique... just to name a few: songs like Man on the Moon, Losing My Religion, or Everybody Hurts are light-years away from Houston, Accelerate, and Supernatural Superserious; unfortunately, that's the way it is. You can tell that Bill Berry was a key figure in the band.

47 BUT HOW CAN YOU SAY THIS... TELL ME A HISTORICAL BAND COME ON, I KNOW THERE ARE SOME, BUT R.E.M. IS ONE OF THOSE, YOU CAN'T DENY IT... NOW THERE'S A TRIAL GOING ON AGAINST A BAND THAT HAS ALWAYS RELEASED EXCELLENT ALBUMS, NEVER COMPROMISING, AND CONTRIBUTING TO MAKE ROCK A UNIQUE GENRE. AND THEN DAMN IT, THEY'VE BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK HALL OF FAME, AND THAT'S NOT FOR EVERYONE. R.E.M. IS GREAT END OF STORY. THEY'VE HAD DIPS, MEDIOCRE ALBUMS, IT'S NORMAL, BUT EVEN THEY, BEING HUMAN BEINGS, CAN MAKE MISTAKES. RATHER, PUT THE SPOTLIGHT ON THE VARIOUS CRAP THAT EXISTS IN THE WORLD AND NOT ON R.E.M!!!
