Fantozzi's mask is the evolution of Fracchia's, born for TV and featuring Colli instead of Mazzamauro. A film much more layered than it appears at first glance: it moves from verbal humor regarding the linguistic misunderstandings among Italians from different regions and social classes, united only by the incorrect use of the subjunctive, to the mockery of academic or professional titles, to the exaggerated comedic skits of a physicality raised to the power and thus hyperbolic, surreal; and in this shameless little Italy, always relevant, not only the humble reveal their quirks and frustrations, but even the pompous powerful or nobles are often crazy maniacs and terrible slave traders.
The communist colleague Folagra opens his eyes to Marx and capitalism... the years of lead have already begun, and there will be comrades who will turn to guns. An epoch-making film, a snapshot of Italy then and now, the heavy hand of Salce... can be felt.

The dark ones are a bit hard for me to digest... Robert Smith is Ziggy Stardust dressed in mourning who doesn't want to change and sleeps dressed. Sorrentino is verbose and often prolixes.

Just one doubt about the so-called heaviness of the '80s: they seemed hedonistic and danceable to me, if anything. I agree.
