The best? Great question!!! In my opinion, if you don't know them, the last one (a senile animal) but if you know them well, the choice becomes tough... my favorite is BULLHEAD, but that's a personal thing.

is tis real is one of my absolute top ten albums... just think, I even have it on vinyl.
It cracks me up because it encapsulates exactly everything that happened in the ten years that followed.
Songs like return of the rat, mystery, d7, tragedy, potential suicide, are way ahead of their time for a record branded '79. All the bands take inspiration from them (dinosaur jr, nirvana, melins – their cover of youth of america is spectacular).
So, what do you think?

It's hard to choose just one song by the Melvins to represent what they do (it's tough with an album, let alone a song)... try downloading "Oven" (which is on Ozma), "Queen" (which is on Stoner Witch), "Hooch" (which is on Houdini)... anyway, very representative of their journey is the latest album, which is also the most accessible.

The only thing I don't understand about Debaser and will never understand is the passion for being a know-it-all. There are thousands of bands I don't want to know anything about, and yet here we are competing to see who’s more cultured. Damn, there are people who take themselves way too seriously, but forget about Scaruffi... I mean, Scaruffi is nothing compared to this! Anyway, enlighten me on this ranking of human cases!!! Give me a good laugh!

Well, you can't really call them the quintessential punk band (I don't think they are at all except for the first one... then in their evolution, punk doesn't really find space... take for example Combat Rock. What does it have to do with punk?)!!!
