You got that right: a large part of the neomelodic singers are not Neapolitans, but Sicilians... in Sicily, there is a "parallel market" of neomelodic singers, all islanders, among which only a few manage to "become Neapolitan"... it takes sacrifice, the right contacts (and we know who we’re talking about), and "Neomelodic Talent"... Their records cannot be launched and promoted in Campania like those of Neapolitans, but must "sneak in," making their way slowly (a bit like when an artist comes out with a single or an entire CD, and then you discover that it’s been three or four years in the making, and that the slow word-of-mouth gradually brings them to MTV and to the top of the charts, a bit like what happened with Manu Chao, who is now a mainstream artist in his own way).
