They are different films; it's true what you say about the irony and the touching moments. You might also be right about the historical representation, but that doesn't make it a banal film. Here, the focus is more on the father-son relationship and on Benigni's genius (that's what he does best). Then the story ends well, yes, but Benigni still dies. Schindler's List is a masterpiece, but you can't compare it to this; it's not the same thing. I don't know if you understand me.
