A well-written review, even if it echoes statements that have been heard and read many times before. The album is very naive and not particularly engaging, but it is also fresh, not retrospective or filled with rhetoric like the last, depressing works. The sound is sparse but well crafted, with very nice tracks like Electric Co. (the best) and the lively Out Of Control, while I Will Follow has never said much to me. It’s simple adolescent music made (it seems) mainly to have fun and entertain. In my opinion, the artistic peak of U2 is The Unforgettable Fire, but unfortunately right after that begins the stellar arc that, with less and less genius intuition (the last spark in my opinion being Zooropa, a true surprise), will lead them to the comfortable and sycophantic kitsch of the last years. What a sadness..
