THE REVIEW

And here they are, the 5 maroons have returned, after about 3 or 4 years of silence and only concerts. Their new album is among the most anticipated of the year.

Already in the single that precedes it ("Makes Me Wonder") you can hear what will then be throughout the album, namely, the freshness of Pop and the energy of Funky. Nothing to do with the fantastic sound and atmospheres of the previous "Songs About Jane", but I must say that this album is truly beautiful.

It starts with a truly Funk and engaging piece, "If I Never See Your Face Again". The album continues with tracks that invite you to dance and are very catchy. "Little Of Your Time" has a chorus that reminds me of some songs by the lovely Hilary Duff. "Wake Up Call" is also great, which somewhat echoes the sound of "Songs About Jane".
Many ballads are present such as "Nothing Lasts Forever" (a revisit of the song already sung in 2005 by "Adam Levine" and "Kanye West" "Heard'em Say"), "Won't Go Home Without You" (a bit bland), "Goodnight Goodnight" (in which the guitar stands out in its magnificent sound) and "Better That We Break" (the slowest piece on the record).

"Can't Stop" is the typical Rock song of "Maroon 5" already dusted off previously and has a nice Groove. "Kiwi" is a nice Funky song flanked in the last chorus by some vocals and (a very fitting choice) by some horn sections which are a bit "ruined" by the last part done only by chaos, but in the end, it fits considering the Rock attitude that the maroons want to show. The last two tracks of the album, "Back At Your Door" and especially "Infatuation", are entirely different. The first is well-made and melancholic, the second is perhaps the most beautiful track of the whole album and is compelling and expresses what all 5 truly are.

Let's move on to the flaws: first of all, the album is very short (just over 40 minutes) and the longest and most beautiful song is the bonus track ("Infatuation", 4:25, you do the math). Then, the current drummer doesn't please me and I much prefer the legendary Brian, who, among other things, had a beautiful relationship with the singer and is one of the founders. Finally, I must acknowledge that this group is repetitive in their albums and needs to refresh themselves a bit.

For the rest, a great album that will certainly sell a lot. Congratulations.

Summary by Bot

Maroon 5 returns with their anticipated 2007 album blending fresh pop and energetic funk. The album features catchy, danceable tracks and compelling ballads. Though shorter in length and somewhat repetitive compared to earlier work, the record shows solid musicianship, especially highlighted by the standout bonus track "Infatuation." Minor criticisms include the new drummer's performance and a desire for more artistic refreshment.
