Pholas Dactylus Concerto Delle Menti

Well, paloz, I think anyone who listens to music should know that an album is bought, played from start to finish, absorbed thoroughly, and then you evaluate it by giving a critical and well-balanced judgment. Of course, those who listen to music just to pass the time don’t even know that Pholas Dactylus and other bands from the progressive backwaters exist. However, those who are passionate—I'm not just talking about prog but music in general—who are in search of new things and always unique and original stuff, who are forming an absolute scale of values in the artistic field, might be intrigued by these musical frontiers... or not? :)

The Cold Cream was from Rome anyway... then, as for my opinion: Palepoli doesn't compare, it's a perfectly centered masterpiece... just my opinion.

Ticket to Hell...symphonic prog? XO Gentle Giant and Jethro Tull? Well... I simply can't understand why it is absolutely necessary to sully every good Italian prog album with swear words and names like "King Crimson" or "Jethro Tull." It's infuriating, oh, but always the same things said in reviews! The first review I see that talks about Italian music and doesn't even mention an Anglo-Saxon name, I swear I'll give it 5 stars!

This record was recorded in two hours. The guys from Rovescio say they entered the recording studio and came out two hours later. Then some guy from the record label asked them, "So, have you finished tuning your instruments?" and one of them replied, "Well, actually, we finished recording." The guy nearly fainted.. Contaminazione is a mess. Where is Rovescio? All I hear is a perfect little keyboardist playing pieces by Bach like so many others, and I also hear a lot of parts copied from the masterpiece album of Paese Dei Balocchi.. nothing else.

Even my grandmother knows Il Rovescio, I swear. She was into it in the seventies. Can I say I have a prog grandmother? :) Contaminazione is the wreckage of a hard progressive band... the wreckage of Il Rovescio. What a disgrace of an album. In every aspect. But it's a bit like all of Bacalov's works... How to trivialize a genre, a band, and a great composer like Bach in five minutes. La Bibbia and Io Come Io are the only true works of this band.

I am absolutely not on the level of Orme and PFM... I'm much better. Coincidentally, I'm quite original.

Oh, by the way, I would like to point out that some parts of this album have been shamelessly plagiarized in the overrated "Contaminazione" by Rovescio della Medaglia, an album released the year after this one, which I rate a solid 1 for its artistic pettiness and musical expiration. Try listening to "Impotenza Dell'Umiltà Della Rassegnazione" by Paese and immediately after "La Grande Fuga." In the first, there's an interesting section of Hammond C3 organ: the organ plays the same part six times in a row that overlap perfectly in a three-dimensional space. An arduous job. In the second track, the SAME IDENTICAL SECTION is rehashed in a rather tacky way on the minimoog. Junk from the new prog, and plagiarism worthy of denunciation. Want to know how this is possible? The last keyboardist of Paese, Franco Di Sabbatino (who, by the way, has nothing to do with the making of this Absolute Masterpiece of music) after moving to Rovescio Della Medaglia, has presumptuously taken these parts, which aren’t even his, for "Contaminazione." Then it turns out that the album from Paese dei Balocchi falls into oblivion and is forgotten, 1970s Italian progressive is seen as garbage, and the English bands are considered better, while "Contaminazione," which is critically a piece of junk (unless you have an emotional attachment), becomes a milestone, an exceptional historical masterpiece, an absolute work, one of the seven wonders of the world, and so on. Well, thanks to the fact that Italian prog generally sucks, there continues to be a pursuit of albums and bands that aren’t worth anything, see PFM, Orme, Locanda Delle Fate. And what kind of progressive is this? No, this is the trend of progressive. Music should be sought elsewhere. In conclusion, I must say I hold the work done previously by the guys from RdM in great esteem, but for this, I reserve only one comment for them and for that Sunday composer Luis Bacalov: SHAME.
