Surely the best album of his solo career.

I don't know him, I thought the most vulgar and absurd was Fritz The Cat by Robert Crumb.

I believe that for better or worse they opted for the most famous tracks, (18 and they are also nice, apart from Born In The USA) it’s the classic compilation for those who don't know him. Some of the songs you mentioned I don't even know, because I only followed him up to Nebraska.

JDV666 Where is it written that he invented rock? Personally, I wrote that the importance he had for rock'n'roll was unmatched by anyone else, because he spread r'n'r on a global scale. In addition to this, he influenced the way millions of people think and behave. If you want to listen to artists who wrote their own songs, they have been mentioned.

CURRAHEE72's reasoning is right, but the songs included in this best are all beautiful. For those who are not familiar with early Springsteen (and I don’t think there are that few), it's an album to recommend.

J&R, I would like to reply as well. Supersoul was referring to rock 'n roll, and at that time, they were all little songs; this does not mean they have less dignity than the ballads of the great singer-songwriters you mention.

I put a link to "Good Rockin' Tonight" in the DePlaylist, even though that version isn't the best; I have a much faster, more driving one.

I agree with JURIX. As for Bo Diddley and Chuck Berry (I would add Ronnie Hawkins, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Buddy Holly), for one reason or another, I prefer them to Elvis, but he spread rock 'n' roll on a global scale. Regarding the birth of rock 'n' roll, some say it can be traced back to '54 with "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley, but if you listen to "Sixty Minute Man" by the Dominoes or "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston (both from 1951), some doubts may arise. Others argue that the first rock 'n' roll song is "Good Rockin' Tonight" sung by Roy Brown in '47; by the way, Elvis did a cover of it in '54, but I truly believe rock 'n' roll cannot be dated. (Some called it Rockabilly.) You can't date a music genre that has roots in various musical forms, from Honky Tonk, Juke Joint, Western Swing, to Rhythm 'n' Blues.

He wasn't the best singer, nor even a songwriter, but the impact he had on rock'n'roll is unparalleled.

You're right, the beginning is almost the same. Saint Dominic's Preview is from '72, Wish You Were Here is from '75.
