Well, yet another review of Number of the Beast... are we joking?

Good record, a bit lacking in execution but interesting in concept. The next one is better and more experimental, though I don't remember the title. I think it was Gundrum...

What a load of crap! Certain mistakes from someone who acts so high and mighty are unacceptable! Poletti, for heaven's sake, stick to music or at least study a bit more if you want to take on music reviews. Sincerely, your Slim.

Hackett's "Virtuosity" (in response to Tricky) is quite childish compared to the guitar playing of the time. Rather than virtuoso (since technically it’s quite limited compared to an Akkerman or Steve Howe), I would say it's Creative, that’s for sure. On the other hand, Phil Collins was definitely a virtuoso!!! And the keyboard work based on Bach-like counterpoint by Tony Banks is indeed complex (just listen to the solo in Supper's Ready played in 4/4 over a 9/8 rhythm, a trick repeated in Cinema Show and Riding the Scree..). Of course, compared to certain avant-garde compositions by Zappa or instrumental parts like "La mela di Odessa" by Area, everything becomes relatively simple.

Great record. Maybe not their best (but that's a matter of taste) yet legendary. 4 and 1/2. The soup is ready!

J.J. Cale is perhaps the best American Blues singer-songwriter, even though such a categorization is very limiting.... Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton should just hand him 50% of their earnings since they’ve stolen so much of his style!!

It would be interesting to examine the technical realization of the album, (for example mentioning the fact that they had created a primitive electronic drum kit with pads first) or the bold experiments already tested on the already very interesting previous "Ralf & Florian"... I completely disagree with the notion of inferiority of this and the subsequent albums; the records preceding this one did not contain such great innovation. This is not only the beginning of 80s technopop (with a considerable lead and in absolutely unsuspected times) but also one of its best and most admirable examples. A review a bit too redundant.
