Surely it doesn't attract girls, Nick.

Honestly, lux, his lyrics seem a bit more demanding than, I don't know, Axl Rose or Queen.. :)
Then I didn't understand, for decades, the Boss has been one of the symbols of American rock songwriting, and his detractors accuse him of musical stagnation. This accusation makes sense if directed at Bowie or Eno - but Springsteen is an author, an icon, a guardian of specific themes, and he has managed to carry the American folk/rock tradition into our times (with others, of course). It's a bit like saying that Jeep should make fast and graceful cars like Corvette. Well. You might not be able to stand the muscle at 58 years old, the red-haired and whiny wife, or Clemons dancing with that damn sax since '75 (if maybe you're a regular at Pop Group or today Liars), but calling him 'the American Vasco Rossi' is just nonsense.

This is a fast-food world, pre-packaged and rational in the idea of a withered mass ready for immediate consumption. Therefore, the 'other' roads of Lynchian aesthetics, or the metaphysical gaze on the soul of a Bergman, have very little space in such a vulgaris era (alas!). They are submerged, bombarded by the instant and televised bite-and-run. Films like these MUST be seen; 'explaining' them is a tedious and useless operation.

Cult film that all good boys should watch before, during, and after the Christmas dinner.

To Peppeanonimo, slowly with the nonsense that "Drive all night" or "Stolen car" wouldn't be written even by reincarnating as Ryan Adams (let alone Bryan...).

But why, excuse me, do Pere Ubu, Talking Heads, or Suicide not express a certain 'nuevo sentimiento'? And if there’s a group that has played with its mellifluous 'gothic' status, it’s those theatrical Bauhaus, who have poked a little fun at everyone easy - maybe even you, who don’t know them well. Peter Murphy doesn’t dress like Dracula in every song, on the contrary. Few post-punk bands (that’s what we’re talking about) are as dynamic and mutating as Bauhaus: if you see a damn useless 'romantic spleen,' well, that’s just an embellishment; a breeze gently blowing over the musical fabric of punk, glam, hard, industrial, and gothic from those four guys from Northampton. But what a damn voice Murphy has, huh? Fantastic. He evokes and contorts, sighs and ravishes. You admired Cobain, right? Well, for him, Bauhaus were absolutely great.

Rigorous and austere like Mantegna's 'Dead Christ.' Great Olmi, over 70 years ago, kicks the ass of the 'young Italian cinema' (those who get upset over Tarantino...).
