'King Kong' is the fantastic masterpiece of '33 by Cooper & Schoedsack, the scream of terror mimed by Fay Wray on the ship, Skull Island, the huge wall erected by the natives that hides the Beast, Kong’s desperate end on the Empire State Building for an impossible love, the magical stop-motion creatures from Master Willis O'Brien: a work that revolutionized adventure & fantasy Cinema (the '76 production by De Laurentiis is a monumental flop, worthy of its producer..). Peter Jackson, whom I admire, perhaps missed the mark due to the too much affection he feels for the unimitable Original: unnecessarily long, with the heroine transformed into a mix between Indiana Jones and Spider-Man (exemplary scenes on the island), the beginning during the depression in NYC & the immortal, tear-jerking ending we all know save it. What a pity.
