The Strokes are an indie-rock band formed in New York in 1998, composed of Julian Casablancas, Nick Valensi, Fabrizio Moretti, Nikolai Fraiture, and Albert Hammond.
In 2001, they released their first album "Is This It", which will lead them to play worldwide due to its immense success. The sound of our band seems to have a dual effect; many songs on this CD, seemingly calm and collected, unleash an incredible intensity (a clear example is the unmistakable voice of Casablancas).
The album opens with "Is This It", which is basically what I've described so far... The album continues with "The Modern Age", "Soma", and "Barely Legal"; they might take a backseat to the tracks that I believe are fundamental to this album, but they should not be seen as filler songs because they definitely have their own character and grit. The only flaw might be the lack of that "vibration" present in other songs.
It continues with "Someday", a song I consider fundamental along with "Last Nite", "Hard to Explain", and "New York City Cops". Here is where the real Strokes start to get serious, giving their best (I can only imagine what their concert would be like). The very Rock and Roll songs have a good sound, the guitars complement a mix of sounds that mentally take you back to the beloved seventies... but once finished, they catapult you back to our beloved/hated present-day society.
As far as I'm concerned, The Strokes are a happy and good revelation, who have made their way by literally breaking into the global music scene with this CD (and I confirm this for their other albums as well).
As always (despite my transition to other music genres), I recommend purchasing this album, and for those who have no idea who they are... I recommend finding out and dedicating a listen to this genius band from New York.
Best regards.
Few CDs in my modest collection give me the same feeling of 'slipping away.'
A timeless album, it could be from the 70s or from next year... In its lack of pretension, it is superb.
A truly short and perfect rock album, with words that stay in your head.
A masterpiece and I don’t want to add anything else. Perfection shouldn’t be commented on. It just is.
It doesn’t have a weak point... Tracks that you hear once and you hum forever.
Everything perfect, truly perfect, damn it, everything really perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Few bands give me diarrhea as much as the Strokes.
Rock made specifically to be the soundtrack to a Calvin Klein fashion show.
Is This It is an excellent album of 36 minutes where the freshness of the sounds and that meandering unstoppable rock’n roll make it perfect, enjoyable, and fun.
In the end, I realize there’s not one that misses... they all rock!
