Peter Gabriel Plays Live

Ok Tom, I respect your opinion, and while I appreciate Alice, I'm not a passionate fan of hers; I admire many other Italian bands. I used to enjoy the great singer-songwriters, and there's still some good stuff out there, like Subsonica, Numb, a bit of La Crus, and many others that escape me. There were Litfiba, "Creuza de Mà" by De André, and so much quality "stuff," but when you put it all together, which isn't bad, it's absolutely NOT comparable to the sound material left to us by foreign geniuses, like the well-known Peter Gabriel, or in various genres like Faith No More, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Genesis, Yes, and let me stop because it’s better that way.

mariaelena, I knew that Tony Levin had also played with other Italian singers, like Baglioni and Ramazzotti, and others I can’t remember, but this doesn’t do him justice. I am quite allergic to Italian music, especially the aforementioned, although I certainly save some Italian bands. The problem with Levin is that he is a great session musician, and he has sold himself for records of people who are qualitatively nowhere near his caliber. Instead, I will listen to Park Hotel with curiosity; I save Alice from the "immondezza" italiana.

Well guys, I had written my modest opinion on FNM a few thousand posts ago, just a couple of hours back, and I notice that hell has broken loose over nu-metal, grunge, swing, new age, mambo, home electronics, and salsa. I’ll repeat mine, very succinctly and therefore in a rather approximate manner. Our heroes are a pure, infected kaleidoscope of the best pre-existing musical genres, the ones that suit our "discerning" ears, eager for good music beyond the confines of a pure single genre. They have absorbed the best from the best bands of the best genres, reinterpreting and reinventing, as only geniuses could, musical trends at 360°. Surely they have influenced part of nu-metal, which, however, is quite a reductive merit to attribute to them. They are a sort of nu-Frank Zappa of our days in "listenable" version, a horrendous term, but fitting when compared to the experimental version of General Patton, see Mr. Bungle. For their electric "fury," it's easy to liken them to metal, but they go beyond that. I agree with Donjunio, Faith No More is crossover at its highest expression: power, class, elegance, restlessness, anger. Nu-metal is represented in part by great bands, for example, Korn, but still, it's a branch of crossover. FNM, like all geniuses, see Kubrick in cinema, provoke discussion and love, just as we are doing. The best solution is suggested to us, in my opinion, by Metallarobionico.

You're welcome, girl. It's easy for us to criticize, but only those who write reviews can make mistakes. The important thing is to be intellectually honest. Until next time!

mariaelena, don’t take it badly, but I found your review a bit confusing in its descriptions, style, and even in the details, even though I completely share your unbridled passion for our brilliant archangel. Besides, D.I.Y. is not an unreleased track, as Roby86 already pointed out to you, but it’s simply the live revisited version of the one included in Scratch; Mr. Tony Levin is known for being a fantastic bassist, while on drums there was Jerry Marotta. I don’t find the descriptive style you adopted to be linear and homogeneous; phrases, adjectives, and almost-ole's seem thrown around haphazardly. You grant us the freedom to "comment in a suitably liberal democratic language," and I properly, democratically, and freely tell you that I don’t like rules too much, while still respecting anyone who deserves it. I didn’t like your review and your democratic preamble precisely because I believe in democracy and freedom of thought. Was I too critical? Well, just know that your review of Stilskin was written in a truly impeccable manner, excellent. Great album, Peter Gabriel is a genius.

I share the passion expressed in the review for our faithless heroes, but I technically disagree. They are much more complex, versatile, and brilliant than any band waving a nu-metal flag, even the best ones. I do not disdain the genre; on the contrary, there are good bands, but let’s not confuse them with one of the most brilliant bands in history. For your information, I bought Angel Dust as soon as it was released in Italy, and L.R.'s cover song was not included in the tracklist. It's one of the best albums I have ever owned. A masterpiece.

Well written review, but I don't agree with the content. Faith, up to their last album, have never had a dip in composition; they have always been brilliant, in whatever genre they immersed themselves, like a Kubrick in cinema. Always brilliant!

I hope you can soon soar high above the ordinary again, as I wish for all debaseriani, including the Pausini reviewers, maybe..... :) To get back to the kj, as I mentioned after the review of the last one, I definitely preferred them in the 80s.
