The word "masterpieces." Let's just say "works." Some are very good, but generally on a Peter Gabriel album, there are quite a few fillers as well. Despite everything, collaborating with Phil Collins on drums has also resulted in some great tracks (Intrude, No self Control, ...). Then yes, Rythm of the heat, Biko, the beautiful duet of Don't give up, but overall he doesn't seem like a god to me, as some claim. I prefer Battiato.

Sure, supersoul, but weren't they already spoiled pop stars in 1975? In fact, when Gabriel left Genesis, the group's financial situation was disastrous (or so they say). Anyway, this kind of bullshit is irrelevant; in the end, almost all of Genesis were devoured by the gears of the market (except maybe Antony Philips and Steve Hackett).

Selling England By The Pound is one thing, but until 1972, Genesis were Nothing, Dust, Zero, their income was equal to mine working in a small company. In fact, they started using the synthesizer (an ARP, quite expensive at the time) only in Selling England. And people like Le Orme, Battiato, PFM, had already been using synths since '71, not to mention in England.
