Wow, what a block of marble this album is. Great review (there's no need to go track by track when it's not possible), for an album that's a bit heavy but absolutely unmissable: yes, there are fillers, but there's also a lot of substance that showcases one of the best periods for the band and music in general.

Great record. Or don't you think that R.J. Dio's voice sounds a bit (a bit, you got it?) like Freddie Mercury's?

Mariaelena, why don't you try some high-level pop from the '60s/'70s if you like this kind of music? Give it a shot, leave behind those plastic bands and dive into the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Electric Light Orchestra, Abba,... Then, once you've absorbed these, unleash yourself with everything else (Genesis, Yes, the Queen of the '70s, Pink Floyd, Uriah Heep, PFM, Le Orme, Banco, Led Zeppelin, Rush,... )

It's not true, I'm just saying that nowadays there's only dead weight: today no one can boast a pop group even remotely like ABBA. Why do you think that is? Because the golden age of rock and pop in general is over; every music genre has its period—classical (it's not true that I despise it, quite the opposite...) in past centuries, chamber music in the Baroque, metal between '75 and '90, disco...

Who killed rock? The double bass pedal for the drums, the click, the tempo, the technique, the apathy of the people, Portnoy, Britpop, Rap, Nu-metal.

They may seem like clichés, but unfortunately the truth is, the bitter truth. Rock is dying from a horrible disease that renders it ineffective, and little by little it is being adjusted to commercial standards, making it disappear completely.

Those new drummers you mentioned 1) all play with the click in their ears, 2) they hit the snare on that damn rim (I can't stand the rim of the snare anymore, I'm saying this as a drummer), 3) they play to clichés and can't improvise (Furio Chirico, Carl Palmer improvise, you got that) because their relationship with the instrument is educational. Chris Maitland then seems to me like the drummer for Vibrazioni or Negramaro, stuff good for the San Remo Festival.

Well, today's bands have less style and instead have too much technique. Find me a drummer as imaginative as Keith Moon, or as raw and gritty as Roger Taylor (I’m not downplaying their technical skills, but just the grit and soul they put into their playing)? Today, you put on the headphones with the click track and play in an overly academic manner...

It's true that you can't play only '70s music, but it's been 20 years that they keep annoying us with hyper-technical music featuring a crappy drum sound: the '70s lasted 10 years, and now nearly 30 years have passed since their end, three decades of flat, identical music, made solely for profit, played by Technicians rather than Artists.
