commercial, non-commercial... do you see the Ramones as "non-commercial"? no, because they had their nice record deal, they made a song for a soundtrack, they had music videos, even on the fearsome MTV... I would have expected a slightly deeper analysis but oh well... it doesn’t even make sense to insist too much (oh, right... among the "real" bands, I notice the Misfits, who did NOT spend years embroiled in legal battles over the rights - and profits - from old songs and the band name itself. just like the Dead Kennedys, by the way ToT)

As far as I know, Strummer was more connected to the Pistols than to the Ramones; anyway, you've brought up "true" punk again, but you haven't told me what that would be. Come on, think about it a bit before you write (ah, regarding the Clash: to know a band, it’s not enough to have their records, you also have to listen to them ;-P).

@peggiopunx: before talking about "real" punk, it would be good to clarify what you mean by that definition. And explain once and for all what makes the Ramones more punk than the Pistols? The fact that you personally don’t like them (de gustibus) doesn’t mean they’re shit, you know... I’m not interested in the Ramones either (people who for 15 years kept recording the same song, and now they’re celebrated like American patriots, what a punk thing!) but that doesn’t mean I’ll go around saying they’re a "boyband" and that only the Sex Pistols, or the Clash, or whoever you want, are the expression of real punk... and especially if for you the first Clash album has the same sound as the Ramones, well...

I believe I am capturing the feelings of many. Anyway, the issue is not what you review, it's how you do it.

So let me explain better: my 1 wasn't just because of the line about Guns of Brixton (I'm not the type to make such silly comments): it's generally what you wrote that justifies my vote. First of all, the "analysis" of the band's career is shaking, and also you don't say anything about the music of the album (you wrote that there are beautiful songs and ugly songs, and that’s it). Then, you also say there are horrendous songs but conclude with "the album is amazing," bye-bye coherence! Ugh, I'm going to take some Valium, alright....

But how did they make the songs? Did they take old unused recordings and then put them over the tracks or what?
