@C'e': Leon Battista Alberti was born in Genoa to a Florentine family in exile (I also mention in the review, "Leon Battista was born in 1404 in Genoa in exile, since his family had been expelled (1393) from Florence, prior to his birth") and he always considered himself Florentine even in exile. As for the statement that little or nothing can be understood from the work, I don’t know what to tell you: I included historical references and influences (like Aesop), I noted that they are brief fables (and I also provided the definition in contrast to the term “fairy tale” with which the genre is usually confused), I explained the personal circumstances that led Alberti to write them (exile, inheritance disputes, etc.), and elaborated on the humanist roots... more than that... you’re insatiable ;-) @Fedee: thank you!

Indeed, it turned out to be a bit lengthy, I'm sorry; when I posted it, it didn’t seem that long to me.
