Too brief a review for a beautiful album!

Ah, for anyone who had doubts, the California-Eritrea example was in no way racially charged; it was just to illustrate that the argument "he was starving" seemed a bit exaggerated to me, that's all. As far as I know, during the time he was recording this album, he was supported by his parents, so I don’t think he fell into the "starving in the world" category. Sorry, maybe I was being a bit too nitpicky.

Ah, by the way, can anyone tell me why I'm no longer notified when a review gets commented on? Poor Epuratore must have been anxious all this time not seeing my reply... and besides, I obviously seize those opportunities.

Dear Purifier, see a little what you want, I repeat: listen to your music while I listen to mine... the response was polite because I am a polite person and not to shove something down your throat or to be right because, as they say in Naples, "the reason belongs to fools." Then, if you can't grasp broader nuances in Metal, the problem is secondary; I catch them and they are much broader than those you mention (blasphemies, moshing, etc.). Bye!
P.S.: it's not that some expressions in our language are overused, they must necessarily be stale; often they are because they contain formidable truths. Next time, I'll try to find something more creative... ;-)

First of all, please moderate your terms; I have never offended you. I simply made some personal observations which one might not agree with, and we could discuss them (but you don't seem to be in the right frame of mind for that). Most importantly, you show that you haven't read my posts (well) with that question—re-read them and then we can talk, okay? No hard feelings;-)
P.S.: Anticonformism is a mental state, not a physical one, so one knows whether they are in it or not, and they can also choose to not care about appearing that way.

In fact, I did not criticize the artistic work itself, but a certain bam-bam that has revolved around it, and you will agree, quite recently (the real recognition occurred, all things considered, posthumously). My idea is that it is indeed an artistic work, but it is not directly linked to the world of music (and that’s why I referred to seeking true musical innovations elsewhere). In short, Van Vliet was a well-rounded artist; he probably had something unconventional in mind, and therefore I believe there was indeed premeditation. Whether he risked going hungry afterward, I don’t know; that’s the risk of wanting to be nonconformist at all costs... (and anyway, it’s better to be so in California than in Eritrea).
Regarding the "real life" discourse, I simply wanted to say that the opinion of any critic, for me, is worth no more than that of any non-critic; indeed, I often find greater intellectual honesty (and fewer economic interests) in an amateur than in a professional journalist. I am sure this is not the case for you nor for Buon Ma Proprio, but often those who appreciate this type of unconventional music are so haughty that they attract real animosities. And if you add that a couple of your colleagues in taste, frequenters of this site, enjoy going around insulting others' tastes (and often don’t even know what they’re talking about because they’ve been touched by the divine fire of the God of True Music), I tried to see if I could flush them out. Instead, here you two are, who are (at least at first impression) affable and civil people.
Anyway, my opinions on the album are genuinely those expressed and are certainly more than debatable.

Personally, my doubts are not related to the fact that the album is highly praised by Scaruffi, but rather to the simple fact that I just can't digest it... pure and simple. Of course, Zappa knew how to play, and so did the other musicians on this record; probably even the captain was good, but frankly, I don’t know, because here they aren’t playing—they’re doing something else (a perfectly respectable choice, but not musical).
Regarding the critics (the names you mention), one can say anything; honestly, I prefer real life (and that is, for example, your opinion) rather than what's written. Nevertheless, this doesn't change the fact that Captain Beefheart is a phenomenon of critique and culture, not of music. I didn’t want to make you change your mind about the album; you are completely free to defend it fiercely (why wouldn’t you be!). I was just sharing an opinion (mine) from a listener who is a bit less biased. ;-)
