What do you mean by artistically excellent, technical reasons? Compositional? Harmonic? Melodic? In any case, if we remove the metal substrate from DT or Neal Morse, there isn't much left to be honest, and what remains is itself citational. It would be interesting to know at this point if only citationism is artistically excellent for you.

Well, both DT and Neal Morse have repeatedly mentioned Metallica (and other Metal) among their inspirations. As for the rest, I see you listen to a lot of Prog and a bit of jazz; it makes sense that the genre of Metallica isn't your thing, but to consider them a band of m...a is quite a leap. What I think is that you're probably having a blast provoking, and I can let that slide. Otherwise, you'd be lacking a bit of objectivity; Metallica, while they may not be to everyone's taste, have objectively been a very important band, and that has to be acknowledged.

In this sense, Fincher is not absolutely disruptive, but I don’t think he ever wanted to be. Then we need to specify one thing: it’s not said that something that is disruptive is necessarily valid; this is a terrible view of art in my opinion.

My personal definition: a disruption is something that establishes a new principle in an art form, but not through propositional means (Palladio who reinvents by blending classical and Renaissance styles lays the foundations for neoclassicism, for example...) but through the means of destroying something that already existed (like Warhol who proposes the seriality of works of art "poppetizingt them," forgive the neologism...) I’ve simplified, but I think I’ve been clear.
