The review is beautiful, but every time I hear about this group, instead of focusing on the music, I think of the discussion in this review: A Song About A Girls - Zita Swoon - Recensione di mita Good times.

I don't know. People were ruining themselves (a long time) before the state legalized and allowed these authorized businesses to take up media space, and probably, the latter convinced itself that since defeating the phenomenon is impossible, they might as well take advantage of it. I also find the media frenzy that has been going on (but it's been 4-5 years already: it started with Sportitalia when it was still analog, I remember) to be deplorable, and if it were up to me, I would ban it, but I believe that among the various evils associated with it, it's the lesser one. Of course, in a perfect world, the state shouldn't take advantage of the "illnesses" of its citizens (and I'm also thinking of tobacco, alcohol, various scratch cards, and lotteries, etc.), but take care of them instead, but we don't live in such conditions. The review is quite confusing.

I swear I tried to listen to it, but apart from the fact that if there were no vocals it could easily be mistaken for a record by Allevi or Einaudi, I have to say that the lofi effect this time really irritated me. The review is a bit "pompous" this time: it happens to get carried away.

Nes: I'm sending you the link to the "incriminated" scene that can easily be found on YouTube (here we could open a discussion about the level of censorship on the web...) which is from CH by Ruggero Deodato Then there's a distinction to be made between cuts and edits: the first term refers to censorship in various countries (and indeed this and other scenes were censored) while edits refer to the director's decisions (and only the scene of the old man being devoured by the piranhas was cut, not for ethical reasons but because the director thought the effects looked too "fake"). However, the Wiki page you also mention seems to clarify this (the difference between censorship and director's cut). Regarding the rest: no, CH does not focus on animal cruelty but also on atrocities against humans (which are fictional), whereas CF almost exclusively features (fictional) violence against humans with only marginal instances regarding animals: this can be verified because both films can now be easily found on DVD in their uncut versions (or at least the director's cuts from that era), and that's why I say I think you have actually seen CH but are convinced you’ve seen CF by Lenzi (and I’m not saying it’s due to a distraction on your part but maybe because you came across a version that was circulating some time ago that had a mashup of stuff with few references): I could bet a beer on it :-D also because if you've seen the turtle scene (as I posted above) it’s in CH, that’s not debatable. Then, okay, the parallel about slaughterhouses might be somewhat forced but it was meant to explain that the ethical line is very variable depending on cultural practices and the period being discussed.

Indeed, although it's the first, it is perhaps the only one that deviates quite radically from the rest of his work (even if it contains heavy foreshadowing of his later style). Perhaps that’s why you like it. Personally, I consider Calvino among the 5 giants of 20th century Italian literature, but that's just a point of view.

Of course, I celebrated November 11th in style (I doubt I'll still be on Earth on January 1, 2100), but I've always wondered why in these matters the full date isn't considered? (11-11-2011) which would eliminate the binary effect... from here to the next calendar revolution (if it ever happens), maybe it would be wise to limit ourselves to celebrating palindromic days (like 21/02/2012 or even better 02/02/2020, which by the way is palindromic in any format you put the date in) but excuse the digression on numerological flaws... Enjoy the review; I've listened to too little of them to form an idea.

Two things that come to mind four and a half years later while rereading this wonderful review: A) Barbareschi is credited B) It’s not the most-watched film (after ET) in Japan but only that of '82 (it was released two years later in the Land of the Rising Sun). Small clarifications in an otherwise perfect review.
