But it's obvious that you shouldn't think about anything while listening; if you like it, that's great, if not, amen, I fully agree. I think it's more a matter of the subconscious and habit. Ah, background music in jazz for me DOES NOT EXIST; it's logical that it ends up sounding like nothing! You shouldn't think, but that doesn't mean you should turn off your brain... Anyway, I'll wrap it up here; I'm rambling on.

Yes, but some statements are just unbearable. I don't want to preach, I'm just stating my opinion. I think the problem lies in listening with a fundamentally rock approach. To those of you who have listened to tons of rock before discovering this "dark beast" that is jazz, I would suggest abandoning everything that music has taught you (even in terms of emotional communication). It's true that jazz and rock may have had many reciprocal influences, but fundamentally they are two very different ways of conceiving music, so they are not comparable as genres. Thus, judging jazz based on the canons, stylistic elements, paradigms, etc. of rock (as many of you have done in various posts on this page) is fundamentally an erroneous operation.
