Oops, I meant total disaster...damn, these reviews in the early morning really get me pumped up...they bring to mind sublime visions, like the time I saw Destruction live with Sodom and Kreator, and I have to admit they really kicked ass (well, the drummer was someone else)...good job guys, while Sodom managed to be even less technical, it felt like being at a Motörhead concert, they were going so fast that you couldn't even mosh...well, a thousand is a thousand, everyone despises it, but when it decides to kick ass, it truly knows how to do its job...tor...mentòrrr!!!

This review is also good, perhaps a bit too harsh. It perfectly captures my feelings on the first listen; then, with subsequent listens, things improved, and all in all, nearly a week after the purchase, I feel I can’t dismiss the album. I agree that it sounds excessively cold, but I trust that after a few more albums Wilson will say: enough with the metal, I'm going back to being myself (even though I fear that this moment will take a while to arrive, as it seems to me that this time Wilson is hitting the big time, and for a while he will be churning out records for his new market). It’s also true that certain passages are overly simplistic. Edwin's charisma has practically gone to waste with the distortions, Barbieri is never incisive and is relegated to the background embellishments, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that the new PT are operating on the Wilson-Harrison axis. Nonetheless, it's worth listening to and re-listening to, and judging next year.

I have a rather broad conception of prog, one that is not very orthodox and is more or less shareable, namely that rock (which, despite being influenced by jazz, avant-garde, electronics, or any other nonsense) is capable of transcending the song format, evolving and going beyond the typical verse-chorus structure. When I think of innovation, I come to mind entities like Hendrix, Fripp, Sonic Youth, but also Sunn O))) and Darkthrone—artists who, despite being rooted in a specific background of influences, are able to bring forth a style (if it's a single) or a formula (if we're talking about a band) that is hard to trace back to those who came before. When I listen to Wilson and the PT, I think of many other bands, both distant and recent, while if I listen to Tool, I only think of Tool. But beyond this discussion, which is somewhat inconsequential and solely personal, I must say this: Wilson plays, damn he plays, and in a world where it’s easy to take refuge in the chaos of feedback, drones, and digital electronics, in a world where one just needs to pick up a toy and suddenly they are a genius, it’s no small feat to know how to play, to have ideas, to put them together carefully, and to have control over every single note. Wilson plays and he’s on his tenth album. I can’t wait to see what the fake and pretentious artists, manufactured by pseudo-intellectual magazines like Cocorosie, will do on their tenth album!
