I correct myself, sorry; power is ONE of those genres that requires a KNOWLEDGE OF PLAYING to pull it off. It's also infested with trash, death and especially progressive. Nu-metal is crap (except for a few bands). Then a drummer playing power has to be good; just look at Jorg Michael, Tommy Portino or the one from Helloween – they crush it. I get it that you criticize power for its instrumental structure, which, as I wrote in the review, is often the same. But be careful because sometimes the patterns get broken. Are you a bassist, Moon?

I used to think power metal was crap too, but I didn’t even know it. I used to say that those who listened to Stratovarius were losers and that Sonata Arctica were just show-offs... then I changed my mind after really listening to them and I found out it’s really beautiful, totally awesome, and they show off just the right amount. You might find Stratovarius a bit "bland," but admit that from a strictly technical standpoint, they are monstrous. Anyway, I recommend Sonata Arctica because they really have soul, they definitely do, they’re catchy, icy, captivating, and they show off when they need to. Only the bassist is a bit of a jerk. Give them a listen, they totally rock!
