well ... I care little about making these kinds of comparative rankings. One day Mr_iko told me about a Jarrett album, "but if you give 5 to this album, what score would you give to Koln Concert? 100?". It's not necessarily the case that evaluation must be comparative. Everyone evaluates as they wish. In any case, I am perfectly aware that for many it is not an excellent album, but as I said before, for me this work is beautiful, it's one of the albums I've listened to the most so far, for me it's beautiful now, it should be bought, now for me it's a 5 like the other ones mentioned, then time will tell if this 5 means masterpiece. Opinions :) bye

I feel like I've already read this review in my head... I absolutely love this album. I listen to it and listen to it again. Yes, I adore it. Someone might say, "Yes, but...," but, but, but I wouldn't care at all. All I need is to listen to "Breathless" like I did last Saturday to smile and start singing "still your hands / and still your heart / for still your face comes shining through / and all the morning glows anew / still your mind / still your soul / for still, the fire of love is true / and I am breathless without you."

So we’re on the same page, Nick :) crazy in love with this album, right now I’m listening to “make it rain.” I must have heard it a hundred times, it kills me. And Marc Ribot’s guitar ... Outside the sun is shining but I can’t see it, this album is like a total eclipse. Yes, I also think this album is at the peak of his story, along with Rain Dogs and Swordfishtrombones and ... but if we start listing them we’ll never finish :) it’s a crowded peak. Bye

I got the album on Friday, Nick, and I can't stop listening to it. I took a few breaks on Saturday and I wrote the review in one go on Sunday night. But you could write so many different reviews of that album, all unique. I think Real Gone will divide opinions; there will be the crazy lovers like me and the skeptics, but that's the beauty of it. Bye :)

Hi Nando, I'm glad to read your comment, even if I don't fully agree with it. It allows for a discussion of different opinions, which are nonetheless important. Regarding Blood Money, for me it’s not just a transitional work, but a standalone piece because it was born from a specific theatrical project. We shouldn't think of it as a proper album, but rather as instrumental music for something else. That doesn’t mean it lacks intrinsic beauty. I perhaps love it immensely, because I also loved Büchner's Woyzeck. As for "Real Gone," in this case we're also not in sync. I adore that record, maybe for the very reasons you highlight: it's closed within itself, yes. True, you’re right. I would also say it's claustrophobic. It's those poisonous atmospheres that crush you to the ground that make it fascinating for me. There are other reasons, but I’ll refer to the review I sent yesterday, awaiting publication. I’ll just give you a heads-up that my rating is a 10. I wouldn't want to come off as a blinded fan who cries miracle for every record from good old Tom; in fact, for me, "Mule Variations" is also a great record, but I don’t feel the same charm with it as I do with this latest one. We probably love, in different ways (some more, some less), two different sides of the same coin. Bye and thanks again for the comment :)

This album (and the review) completely slipped by me; I had no idea about it. From what you write, it doesn't seem to interest me all that much, but the cover is really beautiful. Can you buy a CD just for the packaging? Well, not always; let’s say every once in a while :)
