Tom Waits Rain Dogs
Voto:
I don't think it's possible to synthesize the contents of this album. Three years after Swordfishtrombones (or was it two, who knows), the Island period, Waits creates a gem dedicated to the defeated. An album that smells of rain and laments, love and suffering, solitude and defeat, where Waits vents himself by blending music, sweetness, energy, dissonances, musical genres, disparate places, desperate voices, using original musical instruments like the marimba, sounds from a workshop, and poetry. It comes out as a string of pearls to be listened to in that order. So much has been said about his voice that every word spent seems unnecessary. Thus, I still find myself speechless when I listen to "clap hands" or "hang down your head" or "Tango till they're sore." I bought it in July 1988 in Rome (the vinyl when it was released). I listened to it again four days ago.

You know, easy is exactly what I like, Waters' ego overflowing everywhere with his paranoias, crazy ideas, traumas. I don't find it strange that an artist feels the need to tell their own story; I would find the opposite strange.

I feel like giving the album five stars because it is part of my adolescence, because "another brick in the wall" is one of my oldest musical memories, because I like it. And because I believe it is still a great album today.

Caz ... the film by Alan Parker with Bob Geldof as Pink, watch it, I'm sure you'll like the scene of One of my turns, the lyrics of which I've included. Given the Sassari misadventures, I wouldn't be surprised if you had the same reaction as Bob Geldof in the film :)) The comparison with "Live at Pompei" doesn't hold, it's a different thing, although Live at Pompei is incredibly beautiful. There's a story, a narrative. It speaks of alienation, the problem of relating to others, of closing oneself off until imploding. Brick by brick, a wall grows to separate oneself from the world. 15 euros aren't a small amount, but if you're interested in watching it, I should have a VHS tape that I recorded about ten years ago ... maybe more, who knows.

Day after day, love turns gray / Like the skin on a dying man. / Night after night, we pretend it's all right / But I have grown older and / You have grown colder and / Nothing is very much fun any more. / And I can feel one of my turns coming on. / I feel cold as a razor blade, / Tight as a tourniquet, / Dry as a funeral drum. / Run to the bedroom, / In the suitcase on the left / You'll find my favorite ax. / Don't look so frightened / This is just a passing phase, / One of my bad days. / Would you like to watch TV? / Or get between the sheets? / Or contemplate the silent freeway? / Would you like something to eat? / Would you like to learn to fly? / Would 'ya? / Would you like to see me try? / Would you like to call the cops? / Do you think it's time I stopped? / Why are you running away?
Paolo Conte The Best Of

On Friday, Paolo Conte's latest album titled Elegia was released. It seems to feature fewer jazz settings than his previous work. I must say I'm very curious, also because it's been a lot of years since Conte released a studio album. "Una faccia in prestito," in fact, is from '95 (if I remember correctly). By the way, if you get the chance, give it a listen because it's one of Conte's most underrated and at the same time one of his most beautiful works.

Great musicians, performers, but they never really captivated me. Never would I have thought they had such a ... um ... capricious personality. So many things are revealed on debaser. Hi Kurt, nice to see you again on these pages.
