Leonard Cohen Dear Heather

I have waited a long time for the release of this album, but for me, it represents one of the disappointments of the year. Perhaps the biggest, definitely the most unexpected. I sensed fatigue in Cohen, a feeling of unnecessary dragging; I perceived the album as something that adds nothing to his story. Some arrangements truly annoyed me, and I didn’t feel a great innovation in this record, except in a negative sense. Perhaps from the greats we always expect something amazing, but it can't always come. At least not in a musical sense. I haven’t yet thought about delving into the lyrics, an operation that is probably necessary for authors like Cohen. Maybe something will change, who can say? For now – and you have no idea how much it pains me – I’m left with the feeling of a largely unnecessary album.

Caz, I've already tried to look for records like that around here, but in vain. Let me know if you manage to find it or if you come across any reliable news about a possible reissue.

Reading made me think of an album I recently heard, Dang Blues by Jawbone: blues + south + few resources. In this case even less, given that the guy in question is a "one man band" complete with a tambourine. I might be wrong, but in general, I've been sensing a tendency to "look back" for a while now, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

I told you so :) This morning I woke up with "Two-Headed Boy" playing in my head. Any suggestions? Well, I've been listening to Wovenhand - Consider the Birds for days now, an album recommended by someone who knows their stuff ;) I really like it (a lot), but I don’t know if you might like it too, psycho. Give it a listen and let me know. Bye!

I didn't understand what you wrote, damn it... in your words, I read a fundamental prejudice (and a contradiction). I also don't particularly love Springsteen; from his discography, I like "the river" and "nebraska," but maybe a bit more "the ghost of tom joad." It's an album that needs to be listened to carefully to grasp its meaning; 5 or 6 listens aren't enough. It may not be the deepest, the most important, and it isn't even the most hyped, but this album doesn't deserve a "1." It doesn't deserve to be dismissed after 5 or 6 listens while simultaneously being said that it needs to be properly listened to in order to be understood. If only more albums like this were released more often. To listen to it better, here are the translated lyrics: Musica & Memoria / Bruce Springsteen - The Ghost Of Tom Joad (watch out for spaces). Bye.

Caz, I’m sorry, but I think you’re overlooking the content and the lyrics of the album, which are tied to the music. The album has to sound exactly like this for me. I believe there can be style and class even within the framework of a tradition. And then, not everything ends with Dylan. Furthermore, it’s not necessarily the case that innovation, virtuosity, and experimentation must be synonymous with quality. For example, Tutti morimmo a stento by De André cannot be considered musically rich, yet it is an important album. By not taking into account the context and cultural references of the album, you express a legitimate but limited opinion, in my view.
