Well done, Cleo, you managed to describe both the atmospheres of the film and the meaning of this music, and it wasn’t easy to write and summarize such a double review. I like the image of the dusty old radio telling this music. "Sway" and Dean Martin's voice are classics, "simoney" beautiful, but also sensual. However, perhaps the piece I love the most is Polonaise with the strings setting the rhythm and the melody... it needs a sample :) Bye!

Great review, Charles, even though I've formed a different impression than yours about this CD. I think I was influenced by listening to an acoustic concert that Knopfler held on Radio 3 some time ago to present this work. Hearing these melodies accompanied only by an acoustic guitar left a beautiful impression on me; conversely, the album somewhat disappointed me because the arrangements – for me – diminish and at times weigh down these beautiful songs. However, Knopfler is aging well, his creative streak hasn't run dry, and he remains a great guitarist; his voice is perhaps more mature and warmer. In my opinion, sooner or later, he will come out with a wonderful album. This is pleasant, better than the previous ones, but still not enough for me. Bye.

"Where's Jones the player / who was caught by his ninety years / and with life would still have played.
He who offered his face to the wind / his throat to wine and never a thought / not for money, not for love nor for heaven. / Yes, it seems you can still hear him / babbling about the filth / eaten on the street at the wrong hours / seems you can still hear him / saying to the liquor merchant / 'You who sell it, what do you buy that's better?'"

One of the albums that accompanied my childhood and my upbringing. In it, all the characteristics of faber are found: poetry, humanity, the invective against power and society, that which turns the dwarf judge into a scoundrel. A song that points out the responsibility of words that transform a victim of slander and prejudice into a perpetrator. And death, capable of granting freedom to souls to narrate their own discomfort with an apparent detachment, evoking visions of earthly life. Like that of the doctor who, by treating people for free, risks getting sick from their poverty. Many pieces to a larger story. Few albums can claim to have an intensity equal to this. I remember that inside the album there was a beautiful interview with De André by Fernanda Pivano. An interview published last week in Il Venerdì di Repubblica, where this work was discussed on the occasion of Morgan's recording. Morgan's recording, by the way, took place live about ten days ago. I heard his version of "un giudice" and it doesn’t sound bad. It's an album I'm looking forward to. I wanted to write the review of this album for a long time, but every time the words didn’t come. Perhaps it's for the best. Good night.

Some time ago, I had an overdose of music like this, and now I can't seem to listen to it for a while. Great record anyway, and you, as always, are on time, locust. You jump with precision from one record to another. (By the way, about future jumps, will you write the review of Fossati's acoustic live? Let me know, bye.)

Beautiful review Socrates, I don't know who they are, but reading your words really made me want to listen to them; I also went to check out their website, and the covers of their CDs are nice. Thank you for the recommendation.

You brought to my mind a distant day spent in front of the TV with many friends. Locked inside for hours, eating, drinking, making noise, while the images of this concert flowed by, friends, some of whom are now far away, scattered across the peninsula, some in search of work, some in search of themselves. Thinking back to it now, after so many years, it really seems like a century ago. It was the year of "money for nothing" by Dire Straits or thereabouts; they were also there that day, and my friends were crazy about them, but the performance by Queen was probably the most thrilling (and I wasn't crazy about them). Who knows, maybe this DVD could be an opportunity for us to see each other again. A bit like in that movie "Italia Germania 4-3". More for the memories than for the concert itself, which interests me less now than it did back then. So much time has really passed... Sorry for the digression... A better world through art? If only it were true, Nick. Bye.

Always interesting your proposals, Simone. I have no idea who these gentlemen you’re talking about are, but I’ll try to find out something online. Bye
