Miles Davis 'Round About Midnight

Among these was, for example, "Relaxin' With Miles Davis Quintet," which I personally adore so much; it's the classic album I listen to during this time... it warms me up. Moreover, in '57 there was also "Ascenseur Pour L'échafaud," a legendary album nonetheless. In short, what I wanted to say is that it seems incredible to me that in such a short time he managed to record so much music of this level and to build this quintet. And the surprise is even greater when considering what was about to come soon after. After all, it is during this period that Miles lays the foundations for the development of his music, which is why it's important to listen to the records from that time, even if perhaps one prefers other atmospheres of his music as zion says. However, I don't find these dated; rather, I like to think of them as classics, and classics don't age. This edition, anyway, is really well done, both in terms of sound (yes massimof, it's a good recording), and in the choices of bonus tracks and the booklet; for me, it's worth the investment, but the first track alone would be enough. Another thing I wanted to highlight is the cover, wonderful also because it perfectly aligns with the music; it manages to tell the story of the music while being a beautiful presentation of the atmospheres that can be found in the album. Bye.

Sorry for the delay... it’s been a busy week... thanks to everyone - yes, everyone, even the fans of ctrl+c/ctrl+v :) - for reading, and I hope this album can also appeal to those who have never listened to it or known it; after all, the hope is that this review can serve just that purpose. Furthermore, I appreciated the comments from those who know it well, like the melancholic one from Pacino. I also wanted to add something that I didn't include in the review for reasons of space. This album, besides being stunning, is historically important because it's the first that Miles recorded for Columbia Records during a particular moment in his life (usual drug problems). However, during that same period, we’re talking about the years around 1956 and 1957, the thirty-year-old Miles also recorded other albums for Prestige, with which he was concluding his contract. If you think that some of these works were almost a contractual obligation, it’s astonishing to see what he managed to produce. (...)

That anonymous comment in my name is not mine, but perhaps it's almost superfluous to highlight it.

another tape from the past... a nice little disc that at the time was passed to me with a thousand praises, perhaps excessive. I've never delved deeper into this record, but there's always time to make up for it.

Ah ... let's also remember here that the composer was a certain Nicola Piovani just over twenty years old.

We've talked so much about this album on the site, in the twin review of Grasshopper and in those dedicated to Morgan's reinterpretation. What else is there to add without repeating myself... I don't know... now one thing comes to mind: while some "in a whirlwind of dust" can only see the drought, others, few like Faber and the musician Jones see something else, they see images, poetry, stories, like that skirt of Jenny at a dance from so long ago... in the end, it’s these things that allow us to see the world from a different perspective.

I've heard very good things about it, then I heard something on the radio from Iron & Wine. I have to say I really like this singer-songwriter; he seems like a bit of an eccentric guy. The pairing with Calexico adds intrigue, but I haven't managed to get my hands on this little record yet; my local dealer is losing his touch :)

"The Randy Newman Songbook" is indeed a good suggestion Mr. Nobody, I've just put it on after reading the title in the comment, I jumped straight to the minute mark of "Avalon", it warms you up a bit in this cold. Anyway, although I've heard some of Newman's work, I didn't know much about this gentleman, so reviews and comments are welcome to fill in the gaps.
