Johann Sebastian Bach Passacaglia in do minore BWV 582 per organo

Necrophile me, Aeneas? I thought I had said the opposite, but perhaps I expressed myself poorly. Anyway, in the Passacaglia, more than macabre suggestions, I find a sense of magical hypnosis (repetita juvant). Not a necrophile, but a great lover of requiems: the despairing one by Mozart, the powerful and spectacular one by Verdi, the moving German Requiem by Brahms, the angelic one by Fauré... requiems are among the most beautiful music ever written.

Just the call of gabbox. Let’s talk about Paolo Conte, also because I think that by now Aniel and I have explained ourselves enough. Something that wouldn't have been possible with the "bastardone."

P.S. What’s wrong with my personal profile? It doesn’t seem to me that choosing a pig as an emblem is the height of snobbery...

Aniel, look, there’s really a guy who signs himself as ā€œbastardoneā€ in gray and plays at ruining the averages, and not just mine. In particular, he has it out for all the classical music reviews. Since I've received negative comments about this from you too, I had some suspicions, but only that. I acknowledge that you are not The Punisher, but you certainly share a certain taste for harsh criticism, which I sometimes approve of, but at other times I find unnecessary. As for the snotty attitude, you’re right: it's just an impression. The joke about the endangered species was merely an excuse to quote Gaber, whom I adore. No hard feelings, and anyway, I can definitely say that you are not the "bastardone": with that one, there's no reasoning, he just criticizes and that's it!

He already said it ptr: review as usual excessive and cocky, but honestly I have to admit that I had almost as much fun as with some legendary cabaret reviews from puntinicaz (by the way, it's been a while since we heard from him). A 1 of esteem for the "longest-running group in Italy."

To experience it, I must much more prosaically insert a recent CD (from the '90s) into the player where the Passacaglia, along with other organ works by Bach, is performed by an obscure Wolfgang Stockmeier and recorded in an anonymous German church. Perhaps because it lacks the spectral suggestions given by the dust and cobwebs of an attic, I cannot find all that macabre aspect in it, but rather a kind of magic, like a sweet hypnosis given by a motif that repeats almost the same (yet with each new passage featuring some brilliant micro-variation that surprises me) for 15 minutes of dream. In any case, I too prefer to listen to the Passacaglia (and all of Bach for organ) in the dark.

Aniel and The Punisher get along so well that sometimes I think they might be the same person. But perhaps it's just the impression of someone belonging to an endangered species, as Gaber used to say. Whether it's one or two, I still hope they aren't corresponding to the guy who runs under the nickname "bastardone," hunting for averages of 5 (mine and others') to regularly crush them with a 1. By the way, I want to point out to the bastardone that if the goal of his life is to eliminate reviews from the debaserian rankings, a 1 is a waste of breath: just a 4 would be enough to send the average of 5 down the drain.

Here’s what happens when you stay away from Debaser during the holidays: a true fan like me misses out on a review like this, which is truly excellent and aligns with my thoughts on everything, including the final rating, which is certainly more of a 4 than a 5 for these first two albums. The decisive leap in quality, the acquisition of those unmistakable jazz sounds that make Paolo Conte one of the few of our singer-songwriter-musicians, will be achieved with "Gelato al limon." In fact, I’m surprised it hasn’t been reviewed yet, but I’ve already done my part: with "Appunti di viaggio" I’m already on my fifth Conte review.

Dear aniel, I don't like harsh criticisms, but among my 91 reviews (wow! sooner or later I’ll have to stop), there are a few (actually quite few) on albums that didn’t convince me completely. They are so few that I can point them out to you: Genesis "From Genesis to Revelation" (2); Genesis "Duke" (3); Genesis "And Then There Were Three" (3); Eagles "Hotel California"; Joni Mitchell "Both Sides Now" (3). All the others seem to be 4 or 5, many more 5s than 4s. It’s stronger than me: I love masterpieces, what can I say?

Nothing to add, especially given the delay. Great album and a review that measures up.
