Phil Collins ...But Seriously

My fault, my fault, I realize I wrote "non ha caso." I was probably sleeping while standing, or rather sitting at the computer. I apologize: I swear I know it's said "non a caso" without the 'h'.

It's true: with Lucio Dalla, you enjoy and get angry. This constant oscillation between poetry and trash would frustrate anyone. How can the one who set to music the historical-existential reflections of "Com'è profondo il mare" reduce himself to the zumpa-zumpa of "Canzone," teetering between the village band and second-rate dance music (if there's even a first-rate one)? And then to "canzonize" Vivaldi, who has been turning in his grave for years, weren't those fake wigs of the Rondò Veneziano enough?
Phil Collins ...But Seriously

In my opinion, there’s a bit too much harshness towards Phil Collins post-Genesis. It's true that he is the main culprit for the "singles-oriented" shift in what I consider to be the most inspired progressive rock group, but it’s equally true that even catchy tunes need skill to be created, and the songs featured in "But Seriously" are almost always excellent. This applies to the vibrant soul tracks with horn sections reminiscent of Earth Wind and Fire, but it especially holds true for the romantic ballads that this album generously offers. Even a pop album can be of quality, and I believe "But Seriously" is, even if it can’t be called a masterpiece. The review is a bit celebratory, coming from a fan, but it’s an enjoyable read. The only glaring flaw is regarding the supposed "compositional talent of Eric Clapton," who in over forty years of honorable career has drawn from the most varied bluesmen of every era, rarely composing anything of his own. But this has already been pointed out by Saputello, who isn’t called that by chance.

Argonauta, you couldn't have found a better example. While the 11 minutes of "The Lady of Shalott" flow rather static and mournful, the 10 minutes of "The Highwayman" are a climax of suggestion and tension, not only because the story told is captivating. Just as there are boring 0-0 draws and breathtaking 0-0s (any reference to Fiorentina-Roma is purely coincidental), some 10-minute-long pieces can captivate the listener, but not all of them.

A voice out of the chorus welcomed, in fact I expected even more: the genre is a bit particular and for some it may turn out to be challenging or anyway not pleasant. Personally, I find "The Mask And Mirror" just slightly inferior to this, although still at levels of excellence. Moreover, samples shorter than a minute can only provide a vague idea of melodies that are generally quite elaborate. With this, I do not want to "convert" fusillo: tastes remain personal and dissent is welcome, as long as it is expressed, as in this case, without insults or scorings.

Gattonero, I don't know if it's wise to trust so blindly in my "recommendations." However, you can get a vague idea through the mp3 samples I've provided, even though the Prologue one came to me twice (samples 1 and 2). The genre is similar to that of Clannad or Enya, but less "constructed," more authentic and true to traditions.

I understand... everyone has their own style. Mine is analytical (sometimes too much), yours given your nickname can only be poetic. There's just one thing I can't understand: could you explain the meaning of the Lappish expression "eunsòikkèhefare"? I could swear I heard something similar in Florence too, but I might be mistaken.

As a devoted classicist, I share Morningstar's perplexity regarding operations of this kind, but after a presentation like that, at the very least, you'd be curious to listen to it.

Uxo, if you keep storming through at this pace in one of my two favorite territories, vintage jazz, soon I’ll be left with only the other one, which is classical music. At least leave me that, okay? Since the reviews are knowledgeable and well-written, it makes you wonder how you manage to churn them out repeatedly. Well, in any case, keep going like this, because debaser is definitely benefiting.
