Very interesting, well done. There are also cases where physical prowess, and consequently everything that can help improve it, has forcefully supplanted (or tries to, managing to do so in some circumstances) other characteristic factors of a sport. What stands out for me as an example is the importance of "physique" in tennis, a direct consequence of the material evolution of the means used in the sport in question. So, the question that arises spontaneously for me is: Is it still the same sport that Don Budge and McEnroe played (to give a more recent example)?!
