Edoardo Bennato: Abbi Dubbi
CD Audio I have it ★★★
The beginning of the end of Edo and the swan song. Between 3 and 3.5, some ideas hit the mark, but you can feel the magic from many previous works is missing.

The funeral services. Then that follows is not even Edo anymore.
Edoardo Bennato: Io Che Non Sono L'Imperatore
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The most experimental work of early Bennato, and for me it remains (along with the albums from '74 and '77) his greatest masterpiece. A true work of art.
Edoardo Bennato: Sono Solo Canzonette
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Another excellent album, well above "Uffà! Uffà!" from the same year; perhaps the second-to-last gasp of the best Edo. The title track and "L'isola che non c'è" are the most successful pieces. 4.5 rounded up to 5 out of affection.

"An affection is not felt, it is worn directly." It would deserve a full 5 just for L'isola che non c'è and the title track.

What Italy! At that moment, Edoardo was at his peak; his texts were even being studied in schools.
Edoardo Bennato: OK Italia

It's the last album by Edo that I really liked.. I would give it a 7.5.
Edoardo Bennato: La Torre di Babele
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The latest album by Bennato is more “raw” and “angry.” Beautiful, although I slightly prefer the two previous ones and the following one. 4.5
Edoardo Bennato: Burattino Senza Fili
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
It's the album by Edo that I love the most, just after "Io che non sono l'imperatore." Wonderful.
Excellent debut work. Musically speaking, it might still be a bit raw, but it's incredibly inspired nonetheless. "Un giorno credi" is my favorite of the entire repertoire, but "Una settimana, un giorno," "Campi Flegrei," the title track, and "Tempo sprecato" are also wonderful. Rating 4.5
Edoardo Bennato: I Buoni e i Cattivi
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
This is truly, truly beautiful. Second only to the emperor as far as I'm concerned... 5 full.
I listened to it again yesterday, and it undoubtedly ranks in the top 3 of the worst of the worst of Edone. Besides being unnecessarily hyper-long, it alternates between "simply" bad tracks and truly embarrassing ones. Second only to "Sbandato" as far as I'm concerned. 1 star broken.

And what's the third one? The ways of rock? Or the girls?

Obviously "The ways of rock...". Next up is "The girls..."
Edoardo Bennato: Sbandato
CD Audio I have it ★
And I'm good!
It seems like an attempt to replicate what was done in the 70s. Obviously, a failed attempt. I would only salvage a few ideas... for the rest, the downward trend continues sadly. I would give it a 1.5, which I round up.
Edoardo Bennato: E' arrivato un bastimento

Great album, probably the last of Edo's golden era, although the next two are still enjoyable. 4 stars.

At the time of its release, it was a big disappointment, uninspired, poorly sold, and similar in outcome to Lucio Dalla's contemporary 1983. Three years to produce it, big names involved, yet the result is "nobody remembers it" and it diminished the career of an artist who in 1980 filled San Siro.

Great work that deserves to be re-evaluated highly. I agree with you, Ditta: the last real good job from Edo's "important" period. Kaiwanna is already inferior, although not to be underestimated. There are really eclectic and varied atmospheres and solutions here, with truly fitting arrangements. The contributions with the saxophone are truly remarkable.

I save Edo until "Abbi dubbi" from '89, after that he becomes terribly hard to digest. However, I confirm that EDOARDO BENNATO (deliberately in uppercase) ends here...
After a few scattered glimpses of decency in the previous two works and the extraordinary last-minute effort “È asciuto pazzo o padrone,” comes this truly terrible album that irrevocably brings poor Edo to the same artistic level as Ramazzotti and Antonacci. He will never rise again.

A bit ugly, huh? But due to its genesis, it has always reminded me of Jannacci's Discogreve; the matrix is the same, but the result... no. 5/10, with little woodworms attached trying to nibble an extra half-point.

How magnanimous you are; for me, this is no more than a 3.5/4 (out of 10). And yet, he would manage to surpass himself three years later with "Sbandato."

What the hell was SBANDATOH?! 4! 4!! Compared to that, the girls dreaming is a De André album, I’m serious!

"What the hell was SBANDATOH?!" A load of crap. Colossal.

It's sad to know that SBANDATOH is from the same year as several masterpieces like Gommalacca or La morte dei miracoli. In the series: how a black sheep manages to hide among the white ones.
"Have doubts" was still enough, but this is where the slaughter truly begins. Following this, there will be a handful of albums, each uglier than the last ("Sbandato" being the worst). Much better is the contemporary "È asciuto pazzo 'o padrone," released as Joe Sarnataro. I would give it 1.5... let’s say 2.

More than 2 than 1. But there are three excellent tracks: "Lo Zio Fantastico," "Martiri Del Rock'n Roll," and "Tutto Sbagliato Baby," which makes me want to cry, so much so that even Mia Martini made it her own some time later.
Edoardo Bennato: Uffà! Uffà!
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The first signs of yielding, but at the same time still a more than decent record, even though the previous one and the following one are clearly superior to me. 4 fair stars.
Edoardo Bennato: Kaiwanna
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Overall, a good album, although it obviously doesn't even come close to his masterpieces. Probably Bennato's penultimate work, fully inspired. Almost 4.
Edoardo Bennato & the fair of shit, part 3. The previous two parts were taken from the unspeakable piles of garbage from 1998 and 2003. And let’s remember that this is still the same guy who sang “Io che non sono l'imperatore”…
Edoardo Bennato: Pronti a Salpare
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Re-evaluated, nothing particularly shocking but still a "bearable" album. Clearly better than all the other albums of the last thirty years. 6/6.5

I agree, strangely decent. In the autumn, he should be releasing a new one...let's see what he has come up with this time.
Enzo Jannacci: Parlare con i limoni

One of the less beautiful ones by Enzo, but anything below 4 isn't worth it.

For me, it’s really only worth three stars and that’s it. It disappointed me quite a bit, mainly because of some tracks that are arranged and sometimes written really poorly. Anyway, if you really have the CD of this album, I have to respect you because it’s not at all easy to find this CD, really well done.

I tried to evaluate it not only by comparing it to his discography but also to that of his "colleagues." For example, I personally don't find it to be on the same level as "Abbi dubbi," "Bugie," "Un uomo in blues," "In questo mondo di ladri," "Good-bye Indiana," "Nove" (all of which I think are at a 3), nor on the same level as the various "Burattino senza fili," "Come è profondo il mare," "Nero a metà," "Lilly," "La pianta del tè," "Agnese dolce Agnese," etc. (all rated 5). It stands (again, in my opinion) on par with the various "È arrivato un bastimento," "Viaggi organizzati" (here you probably won't agree), "Ferryboat," "Buona domenica," "700 giorni," "Viaggi e intemperie." I hope I'm making myself clear.

Aside from the fact that Enzo is quite an unusual singer-songwriter, it’s really tough for me to say whether Parlare con i limoni is on par with works like Buona domenica or Viaggi e intemperie: they all have songs that are really well written as usual (the title track for Jannacci, Firenze for Graziani, and Modena for Venditti) and tracks that are a bit of a mess, like La fine della storia or Kriminal.
