Fabrizio De André: Rimini
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
By far the album by Faber that convinces me the least, and still deserves a 4 (which in reality would be a 4.5).
Fabrizio De André: Tutti morimmo a stento
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Among the top 10-15 albums of Italian music. Perfect album.

I can't deny its value, but as far as I'm concerned, it's still very immature.

Let's say that those of this period are a bit sleepy; from "La buona novella" onward, it will completely change course, also thanks to excellent collaborations (I immediately think of Mauro Pagani in "Creuza de ma" and Ivano Fossati in "Anime salve").
Fabrizio De André: Storia Di Un Impiegato
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Magnificent album, perhaps underrated. "They Will Ask You About Our Love," "The Bomber," "Song of May" but above all "The Father's Song" I consider the most successful tracks.
Fabrizio De André: Canzoni
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Among De André's less beautiful albums, but with a handful of stunning gems ("La ballata dell'amore cieco," "Canzone dell'amore perduto," "Fila la lana"...).
  • Martello
    15 may 20
I would also add Via della povertà and La città vecchia. And yes, it is one of the less beautiful ones by Faber.
Fabrizio De André: Creuza De Ma
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Faber's masterpiece (possibly alongside "Anime salve"), hats off. It deserves 6 stars.
Fabrizio De André: Anime Salve
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Simply wonderful, probably his most successful album (along with the masterpiece "Creuza de ma"). A thank you also goes to the collaborator Ivano Fossati.
Among Faber's top five works, and among the first 25-30 records of Italian singer-songwriter music. Beautiful, perhaps his peak from the seventies (it's on par with the previous one).
FRANCESCO DE GREGORI: Canzoni d'amore
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Musically speaking, for me it is his peak: an excellent album, arranged wonderfully. Eleven truly inspired tracks, and, 28 years later, still relevant, including "Tutto più chiaro che qui," "Bellamore," and "Sangue su sangue," and especially "Rumore di niente." Rating 4.5, almost 5.
  • Martello
    22 jun 20
And Adelante Adelante! It’s the first song by Degre that I fully appreciated, ever since I was a little kid.
Francesco De Gregori: Viva L'Italia
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Surely an excellent album, still relevant after all these years, with gems like the title track or "Capo d'Africa," but honestly, I find it significantly inferior to all the previous ones and the 2 that followed. However, as a rating, a solid 4.5 fits perfectly.
  • Martello
    12 may 20
The rating is a bit too high. I think a 4.5 should be given to albums like Titanic or AL LIMITE by De Gregori; for Viva l'Italia, I would give it a solid 4. It's a good album, but definitely inferior to the previous and subsequent ones up to Terra di nessuno. Nevertheless, it's an album that is masterfully arranged, yet has some missteps like Stella stellina, which doesn't place it on the same level as his masterpieces.
  • Ditta
    12 may 20
"De Gregori 78," just like "Titanic," is a solid 5 stars for me. I consider it to be roughly on the same level as "Scacchi e tarocchi" or "Terra di nessuno."
  • Martello
    12 may 20
It's hard to judge Scacchi e tarocchi: it's not a bad album, but the decline in inspiration is noticeable. If I really have to give it a score, I'd say a 7.5, because it has some nice tracks, but, like Viva l'Italia, it also has unnecessary falls. P.S. I hope I'm not the only one who finds Poeti per l'estate fantastic.
  • Martello

*In the first sentence, I lost a pronoun.
  • Ditta
    12 may 20
"Chess and Tarot" is indeed slightly inferior to the subsequent one. However, it had some splendid tracks, in addition to "La storia," which we all know by now, I would add "A pà" (every time I listen to it, it deeply moves me). Then, other intense pieces like "Miracolo a Venezia," "Ciao ciao," the title track, "I cowboys," or, indeed, "Poeti per l'estate." "Sotto le stelle del Messico a trapanar" and "Piccoli dolori" are indeed two lesser tracks, but still enjoyable.
  • Martello
    12 may 20
Chess and Tarot might be the worst of the 70s and 80s (not counting Miramare, of course). It may seem vulgar, but I've always referred to Chess and Tarot as "an interrupted coioto."
  • MarkRChandar
    28 jan 21
For me, however, this is the most anonymous of all De Gregori's albums, I've never liked it that much. I prefer "Scacchi e tarocchi" where you've already highlighted the best songs.
Francesco De Gregori: Miramare 19.04.1989
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
In my opinion, this is a nice album. Perhaps the arrangements are a bit too "exaggerated," so to speak, but the tracks themselves are truly beautiful: especially "Bambini venite parvulos," "Cose," and "300.000.000 di topi." However, staying within the "neighborhood," I prefer the previous one.
It's nice to see artists who, after 50, are still able to produce excellent work. Great album, but in the 2000s I find "Amore nel pomeriggio," "Pezzi," and "Per brevità chiamato artista" on a slightly higher level. Rating: 4 right balls.
Francesco De Gregori: Bufalo Bill
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
In my opinion, this is the best album by the Prince (after "La pecora" and on par with "Rimmel"). It's really hard to dismiss anything. Simply wonderful.
  • Kism

I totally agree with your judgment. It's my favorite album by the Prince. I bought it by chance in a supermarket, and it accompanied me throughout the trip. Later, I delved deeper by also buying "Rimmel," which I call "Buffalo Bill"; for me, it's his definitive album. It takes you far away with its lyrics and stories. The music is beautiful as well.
Francesco De Gregori: Scacchi E Tarocchi
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
If you look for the Prince of "Rimmel," "Bufalo Bill," etc., you might end up a bit disappointed. However, if you listen without preconceptions, it remains an excellent album, featuring gems like "La storia" and "A pà."
Francesco De Gregori: Alice Non Lo Sa
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A grand debut for the prince, clearly better than the previous "split" with Venditti. So poetic, yet at the same time so hermetic. Aside from the title track, which we all know well, there are other wonderful pieces like "Le strade di lei," "Saigon," "Buonanotte fratello," and "Marianna al bivio." Rating 9.
Francesco De Gregori: Rimmel
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Absolute masterpiece, with indissoluble gems like the title track, "Pezzi di vetro," "Pablo," and above all "Le storie di ieri." However, for my personal taste, I slightly prefer "La pecora."
  • Martello

As far as I'm concerned, I would say:

    4. De Gregori 78
    5. Titanic
  • Ditta

Let's say this is "THE" album par excellence of the Prince (just as "La voce del padrone" is for Battiato, "Come è profondo il mare" for Dalla, "Sotto il segno dei pesci" for Venditti, "Il mio canto libero" for Battisti, "Pigro" for Graziani, and so on).
Francesco De Gregori: Francesco De Gregori
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
And for me, this is absolutely the best album by the Prince, slightly above the next one; so poetic, so minimal, so melancholic. It’s absurd that the same author today repudiates it as if nothing happened. "Bene" is probably his greatest masterpiece; it’s impossible not to be moved. "And you can still call me my love.."
Francesco De Gregori: De Gregori
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Undoubtedly the most heartfelt and soul-searching album of his entire discography, although (in my personal taste) I consider it slightly inferior to the previous four, while at the same time definitely superior to the following "Viva l'Italia."
  • Martello
    11 may 20
It is a fact that it is superior to Viva l'Italia and inferior to the three previous ones; it is the one that resonates the most, yes, but in my opinion, it is not the one he suffered the most for. In this regard, it only ranks behind Terra di nessuno for me.
  • Ditta
    11 may 20
True, "No Man's Land" was also very heartfelt. Perhaps on par.
Francesco De Gregori: Titanic
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
As far as I'm concerned, De Gregori's penultimate album is a masterpiece. Its peak marked in the 80s (along with the subsequent EP), containing wonderful gems: in addition to the more well-known title track, "Caterina" and "La leva calcistica...", also "Belli capelli" and the (alas) forgotten "San Lorenzo". A full 5.
  • Martello
    14 may 20
Caterina is the first one I met and the one that left the strongest impression on me. Perhaps because when I was in school, there was this Caterina who was known for having a spine-chilling voice. Too many memories.
Francesco De Gregori: La Donna Cannone
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Probably the last great masterpiece of the Prince (before "Love in the Afternoon" in 2001). "La donna cannone" is undoubtedly a beautiful song, but nowadays, I am more touched by "La ragazza e la miniera" and especially "Canta canta."
Francesco De Gregori: Terra di Nessuno
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Underrated work, but excellent as far as I'm concerned. The best of the 85-89 trilogy, with arrangements that aren't too pompous (unlike the subsequent one) and no filler tracks (unlike the previous one). "I matti," "Mimì sarà," and "Pane e castagne" are the standout tracks. 4.5

Francesco De Gregori: Prendere e Lasciare
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Of the Prince from the 90s, I prefer "Love Songs," but this is also an excellent album. "A Glove" is simply extraordinary. Rating: 8
Francesco De Gregori: Amore nel Pomeriggio
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The best Prince album from the 2000s: a truly beautiful record with equally stunning gems. "Il cuoco di Salò" is probably De Gregori's best track from the last thirty years (along with "Un guanto" from the previous album).
Francesco Guccini: Via Paolo Fabbri 43
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
"The Poisoned," "Almost a Love Song," and "The Retiree," oh dear.
Francesco Guccini: Due Anni Dopo
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The pieces are really beautiful, but the arrangements are still a bit too raw for my taste... I slightly prefer the later Guccini. Anyway, 4.5

@company I have always collected... When I first heard "L'avvelenata" I was 9 years old. Double, even triple CDs bought because they were part of a new collection... I have a lot of vinyl but I no longer have a stereo. I need to buy one and I don't know if I should get it piece by piece to assemble or already nice and ready. I want to listen to my records!!! It's love, right? :))
Francesco Guccini: Radici

Song of the taverns outside the city, I want to play it at my wedding. I don’t care if people run away; no one can take this joy away from me.

I would like to say that Brunori Sas recently re-sang it... he didn't ruin it at all. The lyrics are imaginative.
Franco Battiato: L'arca di Noè
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Really a lovely album, perhaps overlooked due to the immense commercial success of the previous one. However, in my opinion, it has little to envy: tracks like "Radio Varsavia" or "L'esodo" deserve to be among its absolute peaks.
  • Kism
    14 apr 20
Pale shadow of "La Voce del Padrone": it seems like a collection of b-sides. Battiato himself would recognize it in 2013, saying, "There have been successful albums, in which most of the songs were of good quality and others less so. I could mention L’Arca di Noè. It’s an album that has quite a high hype; many people are enthusiastic about it, I’m less so… if we take away Voglio vederti danzare and Scalo a Grado, the other songs weren’t much." Inferior, and not by a little, to the first two albums of the return to Pop. It sold out of inertia!
Franco Battiato: L'era del cinghiale bianco
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
An incredible thing, in my opinion its absolute peak, still remains very relevant after over forty years. It's also hard to determine which piece is more successful, to the point that they are all on the same level.
Perhaps interesting, but worthless and almost inaudible. Tedious like few others. The 2 is for the respect I have for Franco; otherwise, it would have been a flat one.
Franco Battiato: l'imboscata
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Definitely a great album, slightly better than "The Umbrella and the Sewing Machine." Of the Battiato-Sgalambro duo, it's one of the best, yet still not a 5-star release, which will be reserved for the next one, "Gommalacca." 4.5

I don't know how old you are now, but even as a kid, I couldn't understand what everyone found so beautiful about it. Today, at 44, I consider it the most beautiful and inspired album of good old Francuzzo (perhaps alongside "Fisiognomica").
  • Martello

I need time to process it. Fisiognomica, on the other hand, is a masterpiece where each song is more beautiful than the last. Caffè de la paix for me remains an album beyond, perhaps too much. Maybe as I get older I will reassess it.
Franco Battiato: Dieci Stratagemmi
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great album, undoubtedly the best Battiato from the 2000s. "Tra sesso e castità," "23 coppie di cromosomi," "Ermeneutica," and "La porta dello spavento supremo" are the most successful tracks. 4 solid balls.

Franco Battiato: Gommalacca
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The best work born from the Battiato-Sgalambro duo: a wonderful album, undoubtedly the most experimental of the last 35-40 years of his career. It finds its highest expressions in "Shock in my town," "Auto da fè," and "Il ballo del potere."

    25 may 20
It's hard to say. If I have to choose, I would say: It was very beautiful, which is the only one I like the least, but it's fine, then La preda which is still monstrous, and for the last one, I would say Vite parallele, wonderful but there’s other music in the album that surpasses it.
  • Eneathedevil

Ah! This time we converge! The idyll has already been broken. "It was very nice" kind of grinds my gears. Then I would like to quote the lesser-known piece from "Il mantello e la spiga," which I think is one of the best tracks on the album.

No The cloak and the ear of grain is a masterpiece. Together with the first four among the best pieces.
Franco Battiato: Mondi Lontanissimi
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Not among Franco's best, but still a nice album, which very much follows the path laid out by the two years prior "Orizzonti perduti." "No time no space" and "I treni di Tozeur" are definitely the masterpieces of the album. Then, starting from the next one onward, the 5/5 ratings will return that had been absent since 1981.

A bit more of "Distant Worlds," a bit less of "Noah's Ark." There are excellent ideas present ("The Season of Love," "The Music is Tired"), but at the same time, there are a couple of less impactful tracks that are still decent ("Depressed Zones," "People in Progress").

  • Kism
    16 may 20
Reaction to the semi-fail of Arca, with an album full of keyboards and without "real instruments." Enough inspiration, some absolute classics ("La stagione dell'amore"), also nice are "Un'altra vita" and "Mal d'Africa," curious even if not fully centered is "La musica è stanca." Nostalgic and autobiographical, I prefer it to Arca, even if it’s not a great album; however, it shows the willingness to change after the false step of the previous album. Worlds far away are better.

A bit commercial it is, but Battiato is Battiato. The only small misstep he made in the 80s was L'arca di Noè, which isn't bad, but there are some passages that fall quite flat like New frontiers.

I like "New Frontiers." Radio Varsavia is not the classic track to open an album, it's not a hit, but it's a good song. L'esodo is indeed a nice track, though it might be missing something to make it an absolute classic. That said, L'arca fails to convince me... it's heavy!

It's not so much that New frontiers is poorly written, but at the end of the day, it's nothing special; perhaps it's Battiato who has accustomed me to more complex things, and seeing him so stripped-down left me disappointed.
  • Kism
    6 may 20
Typical of Battiato, he doesn't care about judgments and releases a challenging album that sells mainly out of inertia. A different arrangement of the tracks would probably have helped; the first side is "disturbing" not in quality but in atmosphere. I find "Clamori" modest, as well as "La torre" (outlier). I would have placed Radio Varsavia on the second side and opened the album with Voglio vederti danzare. One must consider the period filled with productions for others and buoyed by the success of La Voce... as mentioned, I would have waited to release it; even Battiato himself doesn't have a positive judgment on it in hindsight. Musically, it's rather bare and lacking in imagination.
