Stalinism (or rather anti-Nazism) set to music. Nine anthems to the Soviet Union scored with a combative and pompous heavy metal. Forty-one minutes in which the incessant smell of gunpowder rises among the plains dotted with mutilated and spectral cities, behind which the echoes of bombs resonate, while smoky and crimson craters stain the horizon.

Well, in the end, it's true that only Stalingrad pertains to what I've written, but my thoughts were regarding what the band loves to write about the most. Tracks like Attero Dominatus or Uprising from the later albums are a glaring example, and this record is precisely the political-sound manifesto of the band. From this last thought, my definition is actually born. It's also true that the album offers a more global perspective on World War II...

Have patience, but if your definition of "The Heart of Saturday Night" somehow perfectly captures its value (a top score rightly even in my opinion), this definition leads my little head to a flat and merciless one, sorry.
When I first listened to it (in 2006), I thought: "What is this?". The post-84 Manowar may have become ridiculous, but these guys can’t even pull off being cheesy. They're neither epic nor evocative, and their eruptions of power are marked by an unbearable and laughable singer. There's hardly anything redeemable from an instrumental standpoint. Embarrassing.

But wait, are there people who continued to produce stuff like this after 2000?
  • Dragonstar
    14 dec 15
Unfortunately, yes, and there are quite a few of them. I like metal, but not the kind from bands like this that consider themselves "defenders of the faith" and whose lyrics are based solely on: "Glory to metal, the sacred metal, the word of metal, etc...". I can only tolerate such things with goofy bands like Gli Atroci, but those who genuinely believe (or want to make others believe) in this way, I just can't stand...

I am surrounded by fire and ice. My soul is numb and my skin is burned. The fervor of darkness chills my blood... could this be hell? Or just a dream? And what if it were... no... I no longer know anything... I no longer know who I am, nor where I am... I only know one thing... never dare to reach me, because if you do... you will become like me... a demon confined in an arcane realm...

Beautiful Mother North, but overall I prefer The Shadowthrone.
Slipknot: Slipknot
CD Audio Not intrested ★★
A record for hyped-up hipsters who see in this music a possible evolution of traditional metal, when in reality, the band remains light years away from this concept. A bone-crushing music in and of itself, meant to "draw in" and fill stadiums for everyone to sing along... but then, sing what?
Regressive.

I've always liked it; there are tracks with an insane drive. If you had defined the following ones like that, I would have screamed "YEZZ," but in reality, I find quite a bit of originality in this release. Unstable rhythms, turntablism at random, decaying melodies with splashes of "industrial," screams masked as fake rap: come on, there's innovation, uncle. Moreover, live they had quite an impact, but after this one from '99, everything else seems like a load of cow dung, if you know what I mean. Then yes, I understand they can stir up a lot of dislike in many.

It's definitely better than the first Korn. Not because this one is good, I have to buy it again (it annoys me) so I still haven't listened to it, but it's really the first Korn that's a piece of junk.

Aside from the fact that they are two very different works and I think all comparisons are just the result of silly conventions, "Korn" is truly a masterpiece, one of those 90s albums that I will praise until death. I like this a lot, but for me it remains "just" a nice album. Saying that "Korn" is crap isn't even courageous, it's stupid, since an album like that in '94 was fresh air for listeners from various genres.

Come on...maybe their only album not to be tossed! For me, it’s three and a half stars. In the end, it was fun.

@[ziltoid] so I say that I don't like it. The sound of the instruments overall, they sound like toys. You're right about the stupid conventions, I wanted to break the balls.

No, I don't agree. I know that everyone has their own tastes, but I really don't like VIII! There's a system for using G F that feels like playing Pokémon. It's all focused on summons and there's little room for spells and physical attacks. In the previous chapter, there was more balance in this sense.

Then even IX surpasses VIII, for me. Alright, all three chapters are flawless in terms of plot, settings, music, and FMV scenes, but unlike the other two, VIII was a bit more boring in terms of gameplay. Here's the ranking:
    1 - Final Fantasy VII. Rating 10
    2 - Final Fantasy IX. Rating 9.5
    3 - Final Fantasy VIII. Rating 8.5
Of course, this is regarding the official versions for PS1.

Worse than FFVII, better than FFVIII.
In my humble opinion: any agreements or lashings accepted...

Here I am! A bump in the road and a pale operation of nostalgia, inferior to VIII and not coincidentally the subsequent X resumes the interrupted path from before.

Well, it’s still a great role-playing game. Personally, I’ve never been able to stand the overwhelming dominance of the G.F.s; I preferred the other chapters because the triad of magic/summons/physical attacks was more balanced. In this case, the Guardian Forces are treated like they’re Pokémon! You raise them, heal them, teach them abilities, etc...
The world’s topography is excellent, but it doesn’t hold up in comparison to the other chapters for PS1.

...also because I like the idea of a Final Fantasy set in an ancient and fairytale-like environment. This is too futuristic. Much better the world of IX, even though absolute perfection is achieved with VII because advanced civilizations and ancient ones emerge. For the rest, excellent storylines and extraordinary FMV sequences.
System Of A Down: Mezmerize
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Here is where I look for alternative/nu metal. An original and unpredictable album. Cigaro is pure sonic adrenaline, and the folk-reggae bursts of Radio/Video are irresistible. Carefree, powerful, hysterical, fun.
