Talk Talk: Live at Montreux 1986
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Mark Hollis.....one of the best live performances I've ever heard! Not a moment of weakness in his voice, intensity and passion sky-high. Astonishing from start to finish.

Having elected their "Bandwagonesque" as the best album of 1991 (Spin) probably didn’t bring them much luck. Indeed, that year was a rare grace period with a series of masterpiece albums (Loveless, Screamadelica, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Achtung Baby... to name just a few). This work from '95 represents the best synthesis of the Power Pop of the Scottish group, from Big Star (About You) to the Beatles of "Revolver". For nostalgics and beyond.

a very great group that has never achieved the success it deserved.
Television: Marquee Moon

Masterpiece, spectacular. Discovered at 17, listened to it all in one go... captivated! The melody and the riff of "Marquee Moon" are among the most delightful moments I've ever heard.
Television: Television

At the time undervalued, over the years it has gained in quality. Surely the best album produced by Tom Verlaine in the last twenty years. Those who love Television cannot do without it. Stunning as always are the guitar riffs between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd. Many beautiful tracks are included from "1880 or So" to "No Glamour for Willi," not to mention "Call Mr. Lee."

Bah, for me it has nothing of the first two albums.

The Cars: Move Like This

A more than positive addition to the group's catalog, unfortunately here without the bassist and singer Ben Orr. Some truly convincing tracks, but the entire album is pleasantly listenable. A must-have for the band's fans. 3/5
In a perfect collection of '80s American rock, these first two albums cannot be missing; fortunately, they were recently reissued on a single CD. Find them and give them a try.

Like with Let's Active, these are records I played a long time ago. But I just listened to Living A Lie on YouTube three times in a row: today, no one writes pop songs at this level anymore. Chris Stamey was an misunderstood genius.

Yes, but Peter Holsapple never joked around either... the dB's albums that followed these first two legendary ones, with Holsapple at the helm, have nothing to envy, both those of "Like This" and especially those of "The Sound of Music," perhaps the most underrated album in the history of Beatles-influenced guitar pop. I understand that my word may not be enough, so just give a listen to "Never Say When" and then that genre blockbuster "A Better Place," and let me know what you think.
The Dream Syndicate: Out of the Grey
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Generally regarded as inferior (and not by a little) to "Medicine Show," this judgment finds me in complete disagreement. Okay, it doesn't reach the previous heights, and the riffmaster Precoda is missing, but he is well replaced by Paul B. Cutler. The tension may drop, but the tough tracks are still here: "Boston," "Forest For The Trees," "50 in a 25 Zone," and the title track.

Forest For The Trees was my favorite. Even though I rank (slightly) ahead of it Ghost Stories - excluding the first 2 LPs and the live album, those are in a separate category.
The Dream Syndicate: Medicine Show

What can I say, bought in the late '80s, spent a lot of time listening to it and understanding it. Acidic, psychedelic, and rock. Here it veers towards Neil Young and Television, one of my favorite records.
The Feelies: The Good Earth
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Remember (rightly) for the first "Crazy Rhythms", this splendid companion for autumn days, perhaps features the most successful tracks "The High Road," "Let Go," and "The Good Earth." A small masterpiece.
The Gun Club: The Las Vegas Story
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A stunning album, cleaned up from the punk blues sound of the previous masterpieces. Definitely more direct and catchy, it features a "mature" sound and recording, along with a series of unforgettable tracks like "Eternally is here," "Bad America," and "Walkin' with the Beast"... just to mention a few.

stradaccordo, it’s a great great great album unfairly overshadowed by its monumental predecessors. Moreover, the lyrics reach peaks of lyricism perhaps unmatched, even for a genius like Jeffrey. But… why on earth the cover of Fire of Love?!?

Another mess with the covers... uff. True though, great album.

I assume there is confusion in the database; it has happened to me more than once... for the first Buffalo Springfield, they gave me the cover of the second... anyway, this Album is a GREAT Album, if we don't want to give it the highest praise, it's only because of what comes before it. How many post-punk (or however you want to label it) albums can boast lyrics at a similar level, and how many feature Pharoah Sanders and the Gershwin of Porgy & Bess...?
The Plimsouls: The Plimsouls... Plus
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Rare, purchased directly from the States, it contains a series of irresistible tracks all within the realm of (aridaglie!) Power Pop. Among the tracks, almost all noteworthy, are "Now," "Hush, Hush," "Zero Hour," and "Everyday Things."

    congratulations on your purchase.
"Starry Eyes" ...representatives among the best of English Power Pop between the 70s and 80s. Among the first two albums (a third will also be released), I choose the compilation, which best represents them.

I thought I was the only one who knew them, it's nice to find a refutation about it after thirty years. Evolution of the Pub Rock of the Kursaal Flyers, melodic and straightforward. Thank you for pulling out these surprises from the hat. ;-)))
The Stems: At First Sight Violets Are Blue
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Come on guys! I'm talking to my generation (the 80s), no one has reviewed the Stems? Crystal-clear power-pop-garage-revival, just like the sound of the guitars in this little masterpiece. Australia has produced not only AC/DC or The Church but also Dom Mariani...
Other exponents of the "Paisley Underground" led by Michael Quercio, who was close on several occasions to Game Theory, characterized by a psychedelic Power Pop (what could that possibly mean?) and by Quercio's particularly unique voice. This album, the first, contains the debut mini EP with a more Garage sound. Among the tracks, "Jet Fighter" and "And So We Run."
The waterboys: This is the sea
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Certainly one of the peaks of the '80s, as well as the culmination of the process that began with the first two LPs. After this unsurpassable album, Mike Scott rightly changes pace and will gift us another great record, "Fisherman's Blues," his Folk Rock masterpiece. Nevertheless, this remains his most original album. It contains some of his most beautiful and successful songs, not only the hit "The Whole Of The Moon" but also "The Pan Within," "Old England," and "This Is The Sea" (even if a bit too similar).
The Who: Who's Next
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A rock masterpiece, Roger Daltrey proves to be far from the weak link of the group, but rather a truly complete frontman, while Pete Townshend reaches the heights of his songwriting.
An epoch-making album!

The triplet Tommy, this and Quadrophenia are spine-tingling (even live at Leeds, obviously). They could have stopped in 1973; after that, the curtain falls...
