20/20: 20/20 / Look Out!
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Another unmissable pairing reissued on a single CD. The first two albums provide everything there is to know about the band. The classic "Yellow Pills" will give its name to a series of genre compilations (What genre? I'll leave that to your imagination!).
banco del mutuo soccorso: banco
CD Audio I have it ★★★
No longer BMS but simply Banco, and it is in this light that the album should be listened to. The most successful of the group's pop albums, the first side offers a more enjoyable track than the other, while on the second side there's the beautiful "allons enfants."
Big Star: #1 Record
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The term Power Pop for this album has always seemed a bit "restrictive" to me, even though I love the genre. There’s more to this album; it’s definitely a bit derivative, but a lot will be revisited later by other bands, like the guitar riffs, for example, see R.E.M.
Beautiful!

great group, I honestly prefer them when they slow down the pace.
Bob Mould: District Line
CD Audio I have it ★★
I own it... unfortunately! Like the next (better) "Life and Times." A nice surprise is the latest "Silver Age," a welcome return to the sounds of the "Sugar." Rating: 2.5
Brian Ritchie: The Blend
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Among the solo albums of the three from Milwaukee, this is definitely the most successful. At the time, it eased my disappointment over the brief breakup of the parent group. Brian unleashes all his passions—Sun Ra's jazz, ethnic music... A record full of exhilarating moments, starting from the ethnic rap of "Alphabet" to "Feast of Fools" and the cover of Sun Ra's "Nuclear War."
Cheap Trick: Dream Police
CD Audio I have it ★★★
The first four albums by Cheap Trick can easily be bought as a package; this one is perhaps the least essential to own, yet it represents their last solid work. After this, there were many experiments... for those who love Power Pop. Rating 3.5
Cheap Trick: In Color
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A small Power Pop gem from the late seventies, probably their most representative album. Inside, there are many "catchy" tracks.
Chris Whitley: Living With the Law
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A splendid debut, filled with gems accompanied by a beautiful bottle-neck slide guitar. At the time, it was one of my favorite albums, and we're talking about a year, 1991, full of many masterpieces...
Claudio Baglioni: Strada Facendo
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Rating 4.5: purchased in 1981 with a gift voucher, a classic...
"Fotografie" is stunning
Danny & Dusty: The Lost Weekend
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Legendary album released in the mid-'80s, when Steve Wynn, justifiably disappointed by the lack of success of "Medicine Show," takes a moment to reflect and, along with the leader of Green On Red and members of their bands, plus members of the Long Ryders, gifts us this enjoyable LP. Recorded in just a few hours..."Song For The Dreamers" 3.5
Deep Purple: Perfect Strangers
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Respectable return to form for the group, generally regarded as a good effort by critics, features a couple of classics...neither too bad nor particularly praiseworthy. Rating 3.5
Deep Purple: Come Taste The Band
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
An underestimated chapter of Deep Purple, who here present almost a "Supergroup." Glenn Hughes, Tommy Bolin, David Coverdale alongside veterans Ian Paice and Jon Lord. A highly enjoyable album.

A record that shifts towards the funky, but as a great fan of the band, I fully agree..
Not up to the level of their earlier works, however, it is a very dignified closure to their musical arc. I would like to return later to review their first works. Rating 3.5
Denovo: kamikaze bohemien
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Wow! Who would have thought, a big "comeback," with a series of unreleased tracks from the time of the first EP "Niente Insetti su Wilma," almost all unreleased and of excellent quality.
Spectacular album and the main reason why Eric Clapton is considered a legend.

One of the greatest blues rock albums in history, here Clapton brings his A-game, Duane gives him that extra push.
Died Pretty: Free Dirt
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The psychedelic post-punk masterpiece by the Sydney group, the perfectly fitting cover reflects the content of the music. Keyboards, violins, and saxophones enrich the melodies built around Brett Myers' guitar. Many successful tracks from "Blue Sky Day" to "Through Another Door," from "Round and Round" to "Next to Nothing"... 4.5
Costello has never completely convinced me. That said, he is often an excellent craftsman when it comes to the "ultimate pop song." I know his discography, and I find this album to be the only truly convincing one, despite being mysteriously the most underrated. It contains a series of original, personal, and striking gems: "Let Them All Talk," "Everyday I Write The Book," "Pills and Soap," and his masterpiece "Shipbuilding."
  • imasoulman
    21 dec 13
de gustibus non sputazzandum...but...but, to define this as his most convincing album could spark a debate. It is certainly his most soul-oriented record, with elastic and infectious grooves and cascading horns as if Al Green had chosen post-punk London to spread his Word. What is certain is that an album containing Shipbuilding should nonetheless be preserved on the shelf of the soul.
Franco Battiato: L'arca di Noè
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Sure, when compared to "The Voice of the Master," it pales in comparison...however, when considered on its own, it offers good insights. A somewhat heavy mood pervades it, but some moments of brilliance are still present. 3.5

"Of course, compared to 'The Voice of the Master' it is probably true, yet I prefer this to the voice, an album that says nothing to me, even though it is undoubtedly a highly refined pop record. Not to mention how much I consider 'The Era of the White Boar,' 'Patriots,' and 'Physiognomy' superior to the voice."

;) no, even "to eclipse" compared to La Voce... I don't think so. Only Donnarumma's role is (partially) diminished; for the rest, the solutions are very similar. In fact, pieces like Radio Varsavia or L'Esodo are easily on the same level as their predecessor. Then it really depends on how much a record can communicate with you, and from my point of view, L'Arca has lost very little over the years.

The Voice of the Master is a masterpiece, but this one is a close second: it's less immediate, but it has some truly great tracks (maybe Clamori and New Frontiers don't blow me away, but they fit within the album).

Franco 2013 "There have been successful albums, in which most of the songs were of good quality, and others less so. I could mention L’Arca di Noè. It's an album that has quite a high hype, a lot of people are enthusiastic about it, I’m less so... if we take away Voglio vederti danzare and Scalo a Grado, the other songs weren't that great."
Garbo: Scortati
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Stunning from the first to the last note... there’s nothing to say, yes okay the sound is derivative but what does it matter. I’ll listen to it again and come back for a more complete comment. Rating 4.5
Green on Red: Scapegoats
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Now, now listened to after a little eternity, short and full of little gems like "Shead a Tear," "Little Things in Life," and the atmospheric "Two Lovers".... then at the dawn of the 90s it captured me. 3.5
Journey: Trial By Fire
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Welcome back to form with the latest album featuring Steve Perry on vocals. All the ingredients are there for a fantastic "AOR," from the voice to Neil Schon's beautiful guitar, blending with the piano melodies of Jonathan Cain.

Le Orme: Felona E Sorona
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Le Orme: Venerdì
CD Audio I have it ★★★
The album is produced well and also original... the inspiration isn’t necessarily exceptional, however, it’s worth noting the desire to evolve and find their place within the challenging '80s for these heroes of Italian progressive music.
Nonetheless, it's an interesting piece in the context of a sought-after career that will later see them resurface with a series of successful works.
I haven't listened to the album in a while, but I will revisit it... among the tracks, I remember, besides Marinai, Biancaneve...
Let's Active: Big Plans for Everybody
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A small forgotten gem from the 80s, a sort of "Jungle Power Pop." Probably the best album from Mitch Easter's band, how can we not mention "In Little Ways" and "Fell"?
  • BARRACUDA BLUE
    22 nov 13
So forgotten that I left it at my parents' house along with many other gems from that time. Mitch Easter deserves a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement just for having produced that series of Power-Pop masterpieces by Game Theory.
Lou Reed: The Blue Mask
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Return to form, after some not-so-successful albums during the Arista period.
The interplay of guitar with Robert Quine is splendid.
Rating 4.5
Lou Reed: Legendary Hearts
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A good 3.5: for those who loved "The Blue Mask," here's a more diluted and less compact version.
Matia Bazar: Tango
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
A quite original album, at least in Italy at the time, followed closely by the subsequent Aristocratica. Classy Synth-Pop, it completes the turning point initiated with the previous album, delivering us the most original Matia Bazar... a shift caused by the departure of Piero Cassano. Antonella Ruggiero delivers a top-notch performance. In reality, the rating is 4.5.

I found a copy months ago in a shop in Madrid, it’s always a nice feeling. Roberto Colombo and Mauro Sabbione are the masterminds behind the turning point. Elettroshock, Palestina, Il Video Sono Io....what tracks! 5 stars forever.
New Trolls: Ut
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Bought in the mid-'90s in the Fonit Cetra edition, it was a very pleasant surprise for me as I wasn't familiar with this period of the group. Halfway through (De Scalzi is practically missing), the album is still full of nice moments, even if it's not a masterpiece. As usual, there's a lot going on: Prog, Hard Rock, Pop.
Peter Gabriel: II
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
I own it and I like it! "Controversial" album? Well... I've always liked it, many of the tracks hit the mark, maybe the production (Robert Fripp) didn't satisfy Gabriel himself...
  • GIANLUIGI67
    3 oct 13
I keep repeating that Gabriel soloist is very overrated...
  • ranofornace
    4 oct 13
Gabriel as a solo artist surprises (but perhaps not) just like Hammill as a solo artist, never surpassing the heights they reached with their band, but close enough, able to evolve and maintain themselves at extraordinary levels like few others.
Pino Daniele: Nero A Metà
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
What can I say...so much content, beautiful pieces, perfect arrangements, a record like this can only be produced once in a lifetime. "Vai mo'" and "Bella m'briana" are two truly worthy heirs.
  • Alemarcon

I would also add "Musicante" from 1984... then just craft.

Exactly up to "Musicante," then too much experimentation and little inspiration. The 80s were tough for many!
Pino Daniele: Bella 'Mbriana
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Last chapter of the stratospheric "Quintet" of Pino that we love the most.
The beginning of "Tutta 'nata storia" gives me the same chills today as it did thirty years ago.
Not overly inspired, however, it confirms the group's willingness to adapt to the new musical climate of the '80s. Unlike "Suonare Suonare," this time there aren't any truly successful tracks; perhaps "Weekend" and "Quartiere 8." Mussida's guitar shines, demonstrating his ability to effortlessly adjust to a more pop and commercial sound.
Premiata Forneria Marconi: Suonare suonare
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
"Play play," "It can be done," and "Voice Master" are all three convincing. The best tracks with Franz Di Cioccio on vocals might be the presence of Flavio Premoli.

I don't think so; on the contrary, by now they had done what they had to and could do. This is a little disk that, compared to the first ones they made, pales in comparison.

Maestro della Voce, the piece dedicated to Stratos, is nonetheless remarkable. But more in the version found on Live In Japan from 2002.

I probably let one too many little stars slip away, and aside from the 3 mentioned tracks, it's not that great; however, it’s better than the subsequent ones, no comparison to the earlier ones, of course!
Premiata Forneria Marconi: Passpartù
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Splendid acoustic sound, original lyrics, subtle melodies...a little hidden gem. A record to be rediscovered, produced in a transitional historical period. Rating 3.5.
Premiata Forneria Marconi: Storia Di Un Minuto
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Stunning timeless sounds, an album released 15 years after its natural historical period. A bit garage, very psychedelic, a fascinating trip. The dreamy and enveloping "1 Hour 1/2 Ago" as well as the hit "You Are My Friend" among others.
Richard Lloyd: Alchemy
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The splendid debut of the Television guitarist demonstrates that it wasn't only Tom Verlaine who had the makings of a champion. This album has nothing to envy from Tom's solo debut. According to the owner, it was ruined by the producer's addition of keyboards that accompany the guitar in many tracks without his knowledge. There are many noteworthy songs, from the opening "Misty Eyes," with its beautiful solo, to the Power Pop of "Blue and Grey." Highly recommended!
Roger Taylor: Strange Frontier
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Unlike Brian May, the solo works of the drummer bear much less resemblance to the sounds of the mother group; this is logical considering how much of Queen's essence can be found in the sounds and arrangements of the guitarist. Therefore, anyone approaching Taylor's works inevitably encounters something different. A decent effort; perhaps with a producer it could have become a good one.
Shoes: Present Tense / Tongue Twister

More "Power Pop" from the group of Zion probably can't be found. Another splendid pairing, especially "Present Tense" with "Tomorrow Night," "Too Late," and "In Your Arms Again."

How many College Boys stellestrisce have sweetened their broken hearts with these records? Hooks to slam in the face of those who try to make credible PowerPop in 2013. I prefer Tongue Twister by a mile.
