Magma: Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh

Revolutionary album, perhaps the most experimental of the Magma project, dark and captivating. But also difficult to access and somewhat cerebral.
Metallica: Metallica

The discovery album: Metallica discover they have a commercial talent, and Hetfield realizes he is a great songwriter. The quality, unfortunately, is very heterogeneous: some masterpieces (few), many excellent tracks, and others among the worst ever released.

You rightly highlighted the commercial turn of the group. I would say that's where it all lies. Some musical winks to the past, but just to sweeten the pill for the old fans. At the time of its release, I found it disappointing and almost offensive to my ears, and to think that the video for Enter Sandman gave hope.... Today, with a clear mind, I recognize that it's a good album, but nothing compared to the previous ones. It nonetheless marks an epochal shift for the former thrash leading bands; from that point on, even Megadeth with Youthanasia would take the same path.

The most slint-like, dark, evocative, and sick work. The long pieces are beautiful, but amidst so much material, there are moments of boredom.

    No, there's never boredom here!
Mogwai: Happy Songs For Happy People

Sweet and atmospheric, but perhaps a bit lacking in punch. "Hunted By a Freak" and "Ratts of the Capital" are masterpieces, but the others, while very pleasant, are somewhat forgettable.

"Hunted By a Freak" and "Ratts of the Capital" agree. The album is nothing special. However, the cover, the album title, and the video for Hunted By a Freak are cruel and poetic at the same time.

Truly an excellent rock album: powerful, fun, arrogant, frivolous. Especially noteworthy is the ever-appreciated guitar work of Mick, but also Vince Neil's glam styling, the songwriting of the good Nikki Sixx, and T-Bone's agility behind the drums. Great performance from a tight-knit band, of course the masterpieces are others.

The true masterpieces are the work of the hair stylist for the wigs they had on their heads...

I've always preferred them to all the dozens of American glam groups like Ratt, Twisted Sister, and made-up sisters.... technical skills definitely above average... some good songs... but above all the cheeky attitude of seasoned hustlers that really broke through (to put it in the language of the youth) when, back in '87, their videos for Girls! Girls! Girls! arrived in Italy...

Muse: Drones

A grandiose return to more rock sounds, without losing freshness or grandiosity. The structures are not as trivial as detractors claim, and many times the progressions are absolutely thrilling and the melodic choices spot on. The concept is not bad either, original, dramatic, and contemporary. In my opinion, their best album since "Origin of Symmetry."

Certainly better than the terrible 2nd law (but it really didn't take much), I should listen to it more anyway.
