Definition: “I bought this double CD blindly on the advice of a friend I trust. Now I understand it's a soundtrack, and there are many (too many) moments where they talk or joke around, but I find this record simply unbearable, so much so that I will either give it away or throw it in the trash. A real piece of crap. Does anyone have it and maybe even likes it?”

Van Morrison: Astral Weeks

This album here on debaser, just like Pink Moon, is enormously overrated. I won't get into the lyrics that I don't know, but the songs are quite similar to each other, rather boring, and with melodies that are not transcendental at all.

@woodstock, yes I also prefer Pink Moon but they have this thing in common that they're considered by many as two super masterpieces, well for me they're not... and I feel sorry for Nick Drake for how he was suffering and for how young he died but I believe that's precisely why his works are overrated, because there’s this sense of drama, authenticity, etc...

Exactly. I made a judgment of merit. Technical, if you want. Overrated. Which doesn’t mean they’re terrible, but that they’re excessively glorified.
Another album that here (hjhj I understand you’re an IDIOT but I’m talking about debaser because we’re here, there’s no need for you to say that they’re also considered outside) is extremely loved but that I do NOT find overrated, indeed, for me (this yes) it’s a masterpiece and ROCK BOTTOM.

"The songs are quite similar to each other..." "Madame George" and "The Way..." are pretty different from one another (just to give an example...). Anyway, yours is a subjective assessment that I don’t agree with...

I'm not crazy about "Astral Weeks" either, but it's a unique album. There's nothing wrong with staying indifferent in front of an album praised by almost everyone. Many so-called masterpieces leave me cold as well.

Well. Sure, it may not be to everyone’s taste. But "overrated" is not a judgment of merit, nor a technical one; it’s a judgment that directly affects not the work itself but the taste of others: if I say that a work is overrated, I’m not giving a negative evaluation, but I’m saying that someone else is wrong in their assessment - and yes, I can say that, but what’s the point? Did I evaluate the album? No, I declared that others understand less than I do. Fine, but this is a matter of terms and lexical nuances. I absolutely love this album and I would feel the same way even if it weren't so praised as a masterpiece. I find the melodies to be anything but boring ("Madame George" lasts an eternity of minutes, yet when it’s over you feel like putting it on again!), while the lyrics - aside from the title track, which I find has some very happy lyrical and poetic insights - I think are nothing special, since here the voice (at least for me) is primarily a musical instrument rather than a vehicle for content. Anyway, just opinions. It’s perfectly fine not to like it. I’m crazy about it.

I don't adore it either. And I don't see why we should talk about heresy, since art is just a matter of taste. The only thing that bothers me a little is that since everyone considers it a masterpiece, everyone has to take it as a given. Otherwise, we understand nothing about music... Ribaldo and Sandro, champions of justice.
