Pink Floyd: The Dark Side Of The Moon
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Great psychedelic-pop record, history has overly honored it.
Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Very beautiful. Shine On above all.
Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Immense cover. Revisited after an endless time, a work of rare beauty, ahead of its time, recorded by God and aged well. To this day, I consider it the best Floyd since Saucerful.

Truly brilliant cover, but not the one shown here!!! I also appreciate Pink Floyd more from this album onwards...

Wonderful, but there are very few Pink Floyd that fall below the sufficiency. Great ones.
Pink Floyd: More
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Good soundtrack.
Pink Floyd: The Wall
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Dispersive. It cannot be considered their most beautiful album, come on.
Pink Floyd: The Final Cut

Every time I listen to "The gunner's dream," I get chills, it's so wonderful.
Pink Floyd: Meddle

Echoes aside, it doesn't drive me crazy.

It has the historical merit of reviving the myth. Learning to fly is a great piece of craftsmanship.
Pink Floyd: A Saucerful Of Secrets
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Another masterpiece of space rock, one of the most influential albums of the '60s.
Pink Floyd: Obscured By Clouds
CD Audio I have it ★★
Banale soundtrack.
Pixies: Surfer Rosa
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
An incredible disc, a source of inspiration for a thousand others. Bone Machine, Vamos, Break My Body among their masterpieces.
Porcupine Tree: In Absentia
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
What a masterpiece, oh my God. At least 6/7 songs that make you feel orgasmic. Lyrics, music... it has it all. Collapse The Light Into Earth brings tears.

Great! I don't agree in the sense that I prefer others, but it's definitely a masterpiece.
Porcupine Tree: Stupid Dream
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The first of the pop albums, still carrying traces of past sounds. The great tracks (notably Even Less and Stop Swimming, but also Baby Dream in Cellophane, Piano Lessons, Smart Kid, Stranger By The Minute, This Is Not Rearshal) are plentiful.
Porcupine Tree: Deadwing
CD Audio I have it ★★
Their most pop work fails to shine even in the busiest moments.
  • splinter

Well, the most pop work, if there really is one, is Stupid Dream. And it's a fantastic album!
  • madcat
    19 jan 14
I didn't like it either, due to the subpar songwriting compared to other albums, the metal outbursts that feel forced and contrived here, and a general sense of boredom that runs through it. I wouldn’t define it as pop, and I agree with splinter that identifies their most pop work in the beautiful Stupid Dream. Let's say it's probably the weak link among my favorite Porcupine Tree albums, those that range from Stupid Dream onwards.
Porcupine Tree: The Incident
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Epitaph of one of my favorite bands. Not exactly successful, dull in some parts, but a bit generously I give it the third ball, thanks for everything.
Porcupine Tree: Voyage 34
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Chronicles of a trip with LSD, the most ambient Porcupine. Beautiful.
Porcupine Tree: On the sunday of life
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Dispersive and sketchy, but the warnings of the uppercase artist are all there. Radioactive Toy, The Nostalgia Factor, Nine Cats, Footprints, Linton Samuel Dawson, and It Will Rain For A Million of Years are the first highlights.
Porcupine Tree: Fear Of A Blank Planet
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Come and tell me it's not the best album of the 2000s. Every track is a masterpiece, the lyrics are the best of the career, and the music is incredibly inspiring and engaging.

Very beautiful yes, after the disappointment of Deadwing they have recovered brilliantly, too bad they didn't combine the EP Nil Recurring with this, it would have turned out really complete.

Cold, sharp as a razor, superlative.
Porcupine Tree: Signify
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
It alternates moments of ambient, pop, rock, and metal in one of the most evocative records of the porcupine. Undeservedly considered a "transition" between the two phases.

It’s the only album I have by Porcupine Tree. At first, I was really into it, but over time it wore me out. Now it’s collecting dust...
Porcupine Tree: Up The Downstair
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A masterpiece, the record of achieved maturity in the phase of "sounds" (that up to Signify, to be clear). Synesthesia offers an extraordinary "disco" psychedelia, Burning Sky seems to merge Pink Floyd, King Crimson, and Led Zeppelin, Fadeaway showcases in advance what the PT of the 2000s will be: masters of pop always at the service of emotion.

I never went crazy for the Porcupine pre Stupid Dream; in my opinion, they started to find their identity from that album onward. This one in particular, however, I’ve never listened to; Signify and The Sky Moves Sideways were enough for me when it comes to their early albums.
  • pana
    10 dec 14
I understand you, you prefer what I consider the "songs" phase. That's fair. In my opinion, they have produced remarkable works in both "lives."
  • Buzzin' Fly
    10 dec 14
I really like them in their early period, let's say up to "The Sky Moves Side Ways", I think the 3rd album. Afterwards, from what I've heard, I find them a bit cold.

I've always liked UtD, but I don't consider it a masterpiece. I've mentioned before that I appreciate them a lot; I practically own everything by them and by Wilson as a solo artist, and they've made quite a few good, if not excellent, albums, but the true masterpieces for me are others.
Porcupine Tree: The Sky Moves Sideways
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Echoes of "Shine On" in the very long title track, the best song on the album and among the best pieces birthed by Wilson. A truly great album.

Instead, I’ve never been really into Porcupine Tree pre Stupid Dream, neither this nor Signify, and it's surprising to think that some people have remained fundamentally attached only to the early albums.

  • madcat
    25 jun 14
They are loved by so many people, I know, especially by those who have followed them from the beginning. For me, their peak, as you know, is In Absentia, followed by Stupid Dream, Lightbulb Sun, and Fear of a Blank Planet/Nil Recurring.
  • pana

Well, for me there are so many beautiful albums that ranking them is difficult. I would say 1) this 2) Fear 3) Signify 4) Absentia 5) Downstairs.

But what will you find so cool about it... De gustibus.
I like it, but I don't feel like giving it top marks. I'm not crazy about "E' festa," and even in the rest of the album, there are parts that I like less from time to time. But of course, "La carrozza di Hans," "Impressioni di Settembre," and "Dove... Quando (parte II)" are great tracks.

For me, it would be a 5, but okay, it works. Anyway, I'd prefer at least another 3-4 Italic-progressive artists.
Premiata Forneria Marconi: Per un amico
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Nice album, even though I prefer other bands in this genre. Still, there are some nice moments.
R.E.M.: Document
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The classic album by R.E.M., featuring great moments but a bit uneven. In particular, I prefer the later tracks to the earlier ones, and I find that the cover of Strange doesn’t measure up to the original.

Undoubtedly a great record as far as I'm concerned. Personally, the first EP 'Chronic Town' and the astounding 'Murmur' are in my personal Olympus. But they have made wonders...oh, how they have made wonders. "Document," "Fables of the Reconstruction," "Green," "Monster," and "New Adventures in Hi-Fi" are all gems, in my opinion...
  • pana
    31 jul 15
For me, their best is "Murmur." Behind it, a string of outsiders that includes Document, Green, Automatic For The People, and Monster. Although popular, I’m not crazy about "Life's Rich Pageant" and "Out Of Time," while I still need to give listens to "Reckoning," "Fables of The Reconstruction," and "New Adventures in Hi-Fi."
    That's my story with R.E.M. ;)

I have always defended this album, underrated yet, in my opinion, inspired and full of many beautiful songs. The disaster will come with "Around the Sun," which is truly indefensible, only to recover with the last two.

I'll take the rain is definitely a nice song. As for the rest, I'm not crazy about them.
Radiohead: OK Computer
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
An album that thrives on contrasts, on one hand, it rejects the fleeting emotion of a moment; on the other hand, it showcases melodies - as ethereal as they may be - that are accessible and overtly pop. I like it, despite all the contradictions that have always fueled the pro - against RH debates.
Radiohead: The Bends

Singles come to mind, but one must remember a track like "Fake Plastic Trees," which definitely elevates the value of the album.

    18 aug 16
?! But if they're all practically amazing tracks in here! As far as I'm concerned, their peak even, but that's just a matter of taste. However, to only mention Fake Plastic Trees in a record like this, no.

    18 aug 16
Hi mad, first of all, it's awesome to see you guys again, I think it's been a year since I last set foot here :O. Anyway, these are "cooked and eaten" definitions; what I'm really interested in is taking care of the collection, and that's what I'll be focusing on these days. That said, I don't think there are only masterpieces here, quite the opposite :/. But I do like the album overall, I'd say 3.5. But just big hits? No, I really don't agree!

    18 aug 16
Hello to you and welcome back then! :) It's just that seeing "saved" by this great album (which boasts tracks like Sulk, Street Spirit, My Iron Lung, Black Star, Nice Dream, Planet Telex, the title track, etc., all of them, indeed :D) only fake plastic trees made me widen my eyes a bit, you know.
  • pana
    18 aug 16
No, no, it's not saved by Fake Plastic Trees, otherwise I wouldn't have given it 3 stars (and I've been strict!). I also really like Planet Telex. The thing is, I didn't want to write mini reviews, just to quickly add albums to the collection, and I just mentioned my favorite track, indeed FPT.

Dedicated to Extro91. An incredible masterpiece, featuring exceptional killer tracks like Mi piaccon le sbarbine, Non ti sopporto più, Kakkole, Gelati, Kinotto, etc. Add a Paolo Tofani to the team and the masterpiece is ready.
