Kill The Poor, Chemical Warfare, California Uber Alles, Stealing People's Mail, Holiday In Cambodia: so many masterpieces from one of the best albums of the punk era: hardcore performed at times more with the interpretative oddity of Pere Ubu than with the screams of anger from their peers, despite the violent political message.

Ahah sorry, I meant Kracked, my favorite from the album :) I think it was a Freudian slip, Goat by Jesus Lizard is the album I desire the most right now, one of my all-time favorites (and the previous one is right behind it).

It may not please everyone, but it must be acknowledged that it is the highest expression of the intentions of the three musicians. Those who, like me, love the musical path they have taken will adore it.

Beautiful and evocative, songs like Oceano, Dolce Luna, and Storie di Ieri above all.

For me, it is by far his most beautiful work, the most visionary, autobiographical, and decadent. Almost entirely written with the Prince, among other things ("Le storie di Ieri" is entirely his, as is the music for "Canzone per l'estate").

Nothing to do with what is to come, but it’s a good start; Fiume Sand Creek and Hotel Supramonte stand out in particular.

Once again, I don't agree. In my opinion, there isn't a Faber album that is worth less than or equal to three stars. The less exciting ones for me are Canzoni and Volumes III and VIII. But, I repeat, a ranking doesn't mean that the last places are terrible albums. Fabrizio's discography is one of the few that is qualitatively valid from beginning to end!
  • StebrainDrain
    3 jul 15
I agree with Dragonstar. If they were to cut you into pieces, for me it's one of his best songs in terms of lyrics; it encapsulates key verses of his message and thought. The album, in general, is one of the most vibrant musically with Quello che non ho, Franziska, Verdi Pascoli, and the same Ave Maria. The two you mentioned are another pair of masterpieces.
Wonderful, raw, and poignant album. "La Collina," "Un Malato di Cuore," "Un Ottico," "Un Chimico," and "Il suonatore Jones" speak for themselves.
  • SydBarrett96
    28 jul 13
It remains among my favorites, and it’s the Faber album I listened to first. Magical. "Libertà, I’ve seen it every time I played for the rustle of girls at a dance, for a drunken friend."
Fabrizio De André: Rimini
CD Audio I have it ★★
One of Faber's worst albums, with some truly bad tracks.
  • SydBarrett96
    3 jul 15
I don't agree with that. :) It’s true that the Bubola period is the one I prefer the "least" (notice the quotes) as it serves as a dividing line between the masterpieces of the first period and those of the second, but both this one and the 1981 homonymous album deserve a full 4. There’s a stunning piece here called "Sally", but even the title track and "Andrea" are not to be underestimated. Just for this, "Rimini" deserves high scores.
  • pana

Andrea is a fine piece, but he's the only one I really like from this album. The title track and Sally are so-so, you know.

    3 jul 15
In short, I find that you've discredited it a bit too much. Sally, Volta la carta, Avventura a Durango, Andrea, Zirichiltaggia, the title track and (above all) Coda di lupo, are all here. Four stars at least!

Fabrizio De André: Tutti Morimmo A Stento
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
The intensity and drama at the highest levels ever reached by Faber; his greatest masterpiece and, in my humble opinion, the greatest record of Italian music.
"How many innocents in the dreadful agony
did you vote, deciding their fate,
and how just do you think it is
a sentence that decrees death?"
  • SydBarrett96

  • ranofornace
    28 jul 13
Pana, so young (16 years old) you write like this and take on serious topics, your precocity scares me quite a bit, am I wrong? At your age, I was busy daydreaming and flitting around looking for girls (I had little luck). Yes, I listened to music, went to concerts, and above all, spent time with my peers who wanted nothing to do with serious matters (and they were right), but "throwing myself" into criticism, even cultural, with slightly older interlocutors never even crossed my mind. Yet you navigate it wonderfully. Is all this a product of the times, or are we dealing with "sui generis" talent? In my day, I could never have imagined engaging in conversation with much older people, without any shame; I was focused on much more trivial things. Ah... perhaps when you reach my age you will catch up, and you'll be a bit more "frivolous," like I am now. I could be your "grandfather" in terms of age. "also sprach rano"

Excursus on the apocryphal gospels. Great album, also thanks to the accompaniment of Quelli, future PFM (which will never create an album of this value). The "Testament of Tito" stands out among the others, extraordinary.

...I do. It’s not true that "they will never make an album of this value." Storia di un minuto is among the timeless masterpieces of Italian progressive rock and deserves the respect it merits. It's true that this album by Faber is fantastic (among my favorites), but the leap from singer-songwriter to prog rock is so immense that they can't be placed on the same level, so let's avoid making pointless comparisons between Faber and PFM: they are different styles.

The liveliness of Come All Ye, the intricate Medley, but above all the masterpieces of Reynardine and Farewell, Farewell are some of the wonderful pieces of this masterpiece of British folk.
Formula 3: Dies Irae
CD Audio I have it ★★★
A beautiful and well-played album, but it's not exciting to me and I find it leans too much towards pop. In any case, Non è Francesca is better than Battisti. Sufficient.
"and we are ready for anything, as long as we’re here." Although it’s a carbon copy of the woman cannon, the title track is sensational, one of the peaks of the Roman singer-songwriter. Then there are many great interpretations and a non-trivial tracklist, the splendid "Pilota di guerra."
  • harlequin
    26 jul 19
You say that a copied song is at the top of De Gregori's songs? If I were him, I'd be twice as angry. For being accused of copying and because if you claim that a copied song is the best he can do, it means that his entire discography is really terrible!
Maybe you meant to say something else, but whatever...
To me, La valigia dell'attore doesn't say anything at all...

Francesco De Gregori: Rimmel

The title of "masterpiece of the Prince" is personally contested by Alice and Buffalo Bill; this is a great album but in my opinion, not a full 5, mostly because I find Piano Bar a closing track not at the level of the rest of the album...
Nevertheless, beautiful, very beautiful. The title track, Le Storie Di Ieri, Pablo and especially Pezzi Di Vetro are stunning.

Incredible how connected I am to this album, which I find immense (second only to "Rimmel" probably). "Bene" is absolutely his most beautiful song, the peak of hermetic-gloomy romanticism, but "Giorno di pioggia" is no joke either. How much Cohen there is here, and I also find Nick Drake.

Francesco Guccini: Radici

Huge record from the Italian singer-songwriter. The meeting is spine-chilling, La Locomotiva needs no description. The almost prog music of "Canzone dei dodici mesi" is excellent.

I would still mention, perhaps more than the classic "Locomotiva," the delicate watercolor of "Piccola Città" as well as the almost psychedelic gloom of the Portuguese girl, but the sad parable of "Il vecchio ed il bambino" is no joke either. Alright, I get it, I'll keep quiet. :)
