Rupert Holmes: Partners in Crime

High-class pop, for a skilled craftsman with a somewhat dusty memory. Let's dust it off, for heaven's sake, and relisten to this beautiful pop album, fresh, catchy, never mundane, peaking with "Pina colada (escape song)" which is truly one of the brightest pop tracks of the late 70s!

But what are you pulling out for me...stuff from a long time ago, on vinyl. I recommend some of his great pop productions, SAILOR: Trouble, SPARKS: Big Beat, and especially STRAWBS: Deep Cuts.

wait wait you have to explain it to me well... Sparks OK... I'm working on it! but Sailor slipped away from me and Strawbs are on the list to listen to... but Holmes, what's he got to do with it? I was unaware of his involvement!!

Holmes was also a prominent producer in the '70s, working alongside Jeffrey Lesser, in Deep Cuts and he was also an additional keyboardist; I love that album and its soft-progressive atmospheres.

In the meantime, I got my hands on Deep Cuts, which I didn't have. I had trusted the discography on Allmusic that gave it only 2 and a half... I also snagged Sailor, then I'll let you know what I think... tnx for the tips.

The career of the Strawbs in the second half of the '70s has been the subject of relentless mockery, which I find incomprehensible; the album is not innovative, but the attention to sound is exceptional and the production is truly excellent. You're welcome.

Rush: Vapor Trails

one of the best by Rush, tight, with a full sound, slightly leaning towards hard rock rather than the usual prog-hard, but perhaps that's a good thing.
