For me, the most overrated album by the Beatles has two catchy songs: "Getting Better" and "Lovely Rita," and two beautiful songs: "She's Leaving Home" and "A Day in the Life." Lucy in the Sky is a nightmare of malevolent psychedelia. I much prefer "Between The Buttons" by the Rolling Stones, which came out earlier that year, not to mention "Something Else" by the Kinks.

A ride on the Sergeant is always a nice feeling.
  • It makes sense. Certainly overrated if one limits oneself to the average quality of the songs (which is superior at least in "Revolver" and "Magical Mystery Tour").
But the cultural, artistic, and media "impact," avant-garde/popular that existed at the time of its release (1967) and that has always traveled alongside this record, keeps it in the empyrean of common thought about the Beatles, even if it is not musically better than the others (and therefore excellent!).
Sgt. Pepper is simply the Beatles' album at the peak of their ascent, excellent just like the three before and the three after it.

    I really appreciate the comment.
Masterpiece by the band. These are giants; the more I listen to them, the more I'm convinced. A thick fog of noise that acts as a veil for fabulous melodies. Fake sad to perfection.
For me, the pinnacle of the paisley movement, a magical album, gentle power pop sprinkled with psychedelia.
