Bruce Springsteen: Wrecking Ball
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Prelude to the monstrous Born to Run, well-crafted songs, but the talent has yet to reveal itself.

Truly, for me this is where it fully manifests. What was missing was cleverness, yet in a good sense.

I'm in agreement with hj, even in the good sense of "cleverness." In my opinion, this is already a great album, among the absolute peaks of Springsteen's production... "Sandy," "Rosalita," "Incident on 57th Street," "New York City Serenade" is all stuff that fully falls within the aforementioned peaks. The style that will characterize Bruce in the subsequent albums is not yet fully defined here, but there is truly so much great material and there are levels that are difficult to reach later on. Given that, in my opinion, all of the Boss's works up to "Born in the USA" (included) are outstanding albums.

Here, there's more imagination, more stylistic variety; there's ballad and folk, there's soul-funk-R&B, there's rock 'n' roll, even hints of fusion. All of it with an immense joy of writing, and as for him as a performer, there’s little to fault, and of course, that band behind him.

I stop at "Nebraska" and then jump to Tom Joad. Not that "Born in the U.S.A." is to be dismissed entirely, though.

Let's say that here it was something else; in 1975, the "street rocker" was born along with the stage animal that left so many fabulous live albums for posterity. The studio albums are cool, but since '75, if I can, I'm diving into the live shows with him and the E-Street.

Even if they last 67 hours each... I also saw it here in Rome, beautiful.

Yes, that's what I meant by the discussion about the style not yet fully focused. The E-Street Band live is an absolute guarantee, even though I - alas! - have never seen the Boss live, despite him always being generous with Italian concerts. Damn, I hope I can make up for it still.
I don’t entirely dismiss any of Springsteen's albums, except perhaps the very last ones (after "The Rising," which I think is really excellent) that have never caught my attention and to be honest, I can hardly remember anything about them. I really love "Born in the USA" entirely; it’s a cleverly crafted album but still of great quality in my opinion. Even in the subsequent "Tunnel of Love," there are some really good tracks, but it’s already a different Bruce, much more subdued, partly due to the breakup of the E-Street.

Unfortunately, I really don't like it there. "The Rising" wasn’t bad and it’s true, but I never feel like listening to it again. I hold on tightly to the Brucio '73-'82 + Tom Joad; fortunately, he was prolific during that decade and produced excellent material, there’s no shortage of great stuff.

My favorite from the Boss. I've seen him live four times, the last one in Rome last year where he started with New York City Serenade, an incredible show.

"Jungleland" could very well be his most grandiose piece (or at least one of the top three), and the album is really nice, but it's not my favorite from his golden era. Anyway, I'm nitpicking.

Like it or not, Springsteen is a must-have in any discography. 10 years of concerts featuring the best Bruce, one of the greatest stage animals!

There's no doubt, it's a must-see live anthology even though I tend to prefer live performances that focus, if not on just one or a few nights, at least on the same year. That aside, it's an applause-worthy album. That live setting is the only dimension in which, for me, Brucio has remained great even after 1985, indeed. The problem is just the repertoire at that point.
First purchase of Springsteen.
We never parted ways again!
